    For my midterm later, essay question: Compare the visual art of the ancient, medieval, and renaissance eras. Describe characteristics of art that are exclusive to each era. Be sure to explain specific techniques and artists from each era.

    This is a lowdown w/o looking at my art history book:

    all three eras were concerned with religion, thus there artwork depicts the devine.

    ancient cultures, like that of mesopotamia, carved small prayer statues that were also used in burial ceremonies. ancient egypt is famous for its wall paintings of gods, godesses and pharoahs.

    medieval saw the immergence of christianity in art. it is quite a large era to summarize, but it spans from bizantine -depicting jesus with halos, as well as other religious scenes from the testament- to gothic era and the nortre dame, and other chapels, characterized by large stained glass windows.

    the renaissance is associated with several cultural movements, but in keeping with the theme of religion, most people think of michaelangelo. the sistine chapel is the pilgramage destination for all christian worshipers. michaelangelo famously painted the ceiling of the chapel, which is legendary and a must see for any art appreciator.

    sorry for the grammar, but that's how i'd tie all of the eras together.
