Few things... First I totally forgot to tip the delivery man tonight. Odered through a 3rd party ordering company, online, and used the tip in cash option but paid the order with a credit card. When he got here I didnt tip, realizing 4 mins after he left. I called the restaurant to tell them that I messed up and forgot to tip and to see if he could maybe return. I order from this place a lot and its the last thing I would want to do.
Sooo. 1. He hasnt retured yet for the tip.. how much would you, if at all, bring to the rest. tomorrow? and 2. from the point of view of the delivery driver... is he like "fuck that, I already made the delivery, I'm not going back to pick up a tip" <<-------- is that standard??
Just curious.
I was thinking about droping off double of what I would have originally tiped tomorrow. -
meh, if you forgot the tip , I wouldn't sweat it. If you happen to get the same delivery guy next time, you might double down. Otherwise just chalk it up as a mistake and move on.
-
Would bet that whoever took the message never delivered it to the delivery guy
-
Agree with this.

If you get him again say something like "Oh man , glad it's you, I missed your tip last time". Then slide him an extra 5 or so... (IDK how big the bill is) -
kind of surprised the guy didn't wait there until you tipped them, isn't that normally what happens?
-
I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. If you remember the delivery guy and really feel like you to make it up to him then just double up the next time. Otherwise I wouldn't trip over it. Don't think the delivery guy is gonna take it to heart and rub his balls in your food next time. Or he might, nothing you can do about it either way.
-
Next time you see him throw him an extra $5 and tell him why. Otherwise, forget about it... he probably already has.
-
right on... Does this kind of stuff happen to delivery guys a lot? not that people forget, but just flat out dont tip but they dont know which it is unless its made know??
The bill was $70+ $3 delivery charge...$8 tax (ty Chicago), not like it matters
I've used this place a lot and have never seen this guy on the rotation. Usually its been a 3 man Asian team (japanese rest.) -
did you order some rice?

Not all the time but at least a few times a night he'll get stiffed or just get the change ($20 for a $19.35 order). Because you paid by card and specifically chose the "tip in cash" option and then didn't tip, he probably thinks you planned it that was cuz you're a cheap bastard.
If its just this one time he'll probably cuss you out on his way to the next del for being a cheapo who drops $75 on an order but can't throw in another $5 for tip, but thats about it. Honestly, its kinda his fault. He coulda said something w/out crossing the line, like "Sign right here and if you'd like you can put a tip on the card" (even though you both know you selected cash tip, it lets YOU know that HE knows that you haven't tipped him yet, in a polite way).
If you do it frequently you'll get a rep for being a cheap prick and they will just deliver all your orders last/slow, making sure that your food is always cold and you start ordering for pick-up. -
this has happened to me, and i didn't feel like going back out. i wasn't like "fuck that" or anything, just told the guy to give it to whoever delivered to him next, no biggie. and this is dependent on the delivery area, obv. but i used to get stiffed a good 5-10 times a night delivering in the Kalamazoo/Portage delivery area. i became desensitized to the no-tip, however the person who wants their change back is hilarious. 19.35, they give you 20 and when you walk away they are like "where's my change" ... i'd always turn around like .. "oh you want your CHANGE, change?" try to make them feel like shit, most would be like nevermind but some would say yes. so i'd go to my car and get as many nickels/pennies as i could.

wtf did you get that ended up being 75 bucks?

Tipping is against custom over here. I always wonder why I get bad service whenever I go to a different country hmmmm...........
