Spoil away, speculate, masturbate, do whatever you want in here. Feel free to stop clogging and ruining the TV show thread with pointless bickering and tedious nonsense, thanks!
So how about page 58? I experienced sooo much joy when I flipped that page, it just triggered a sensation and captivated my emotions so much better than a damn tv ever could.
2 months late? -
I wish there were a few awesome HBO shows in between GOT and Boardwalk. Like maybe bring back Deadwood or something similar so there aren't gaps where no good HBO series are on.
Sorry to get off topic a little. Anyways I loved the scene when Arya escaped with all the dead guards around. -
That new show about the news program looks pretty good.

Really? I hated that scene. I think they have destroyed Arya's development this season. Her character changes so much in A Clash of Kings that when she stabs the guard on the way out Gendry and Hot Pie look at her like "wtf, who is this person that we're following and what are we getting ourselves into?"

I definitely would have preferred less scenes with Tywin (although they were interesting) and more scenes depicting the horrors of harrenhal, Arya out in the gods woods training and praying, some weasel soup,...etc...etc...etc..
Mods, change the thread title to: "A Song Of Ice And Fire" and delete the OP and i'll participate in this thread. -
Agree qjuice. Araya escaping the way they did in the book was so much better and it's not like it was a budget reason to change how they get away. I wonder what prompted the change.
-
Never read the books or watched the show but the thread title made me laugh.
What's the closest thing you can compare this series to? -
Didn't read your full post Q because don't want any spoiler as I hadn't read the books yet. I was just posting a scene from the show to be ironic (because the reason this thread was made was because people in the tv show thread talked about books so I thought it would be ironic to talk about the show in the book thread) and that was the first scene I thought of.

It is an amazing character study that takes place in a world with magical elements. It is a struggle for power, love, and identity set in the backdrop of a massive civil war and political struggle in a middle ages type period.
If you have interest in getting into it, read the books first. The show is amazing but the books are incomparable. -
Awesome thread title, lol! Count me in as a book snob, but I really dont remember the specific details for the story.
The development of The Mountains character in the show is weaksauce. We need more Mountain action. Also did you notice the character in the show is different from the actor in the first season? Mush less fierce looking.
I hope they do justice to the battle for kings landing in the next two episodes. -
Tyrion the mighty!!
-
I thought the show was awesome... Till they arrested ned and I didn't want to wait, so I read the book. Much better!
Although I just tarted a feast for crows and it's been hard to get going -
Since Osha is apparently important enough (and viewers are apparently dumb enough) that they had to chance Asha Greyjoy's name to avoid confusion, does that mean Osha is staying with Bran instead of disappearing forever with Rickon? They never brought in the Reeds obviously, and it would seem weird to introduce them next season when Bran's already on the run...
They have neutered the Mountain a bit, and he does look a bit odd and non-menacing this season... more Gheorghe Muresan than Gregor Clegane, but hopefully he can get to the raping and pillaging soon because Beric Dondarrion and Thoros can't simply be written out of the story. -
Can we all agree on one rule for this thread?
1.) Everything in books 1-5 is fair game. However, I know GRRM likes to release chapters early and he has already released one for The Winds of Winter. Anything factual beyond A Dance With Dragons is off limits. Theorize all you want about what content will be in books 6 and 7 but keep all factual information regarding pre-released chapters and confirmed POV's out of the thread. -
My guess is that they have combined Osha and Meera's characters and Bran and Jojen's characters for the time being. If you remember in the show Bran dreaming that the sea was coming to Winterfell, that was obviously Jojen having the dream in the books so I think they are making Bran have the greensight. This would make sense with them changing Asha's name rather than Osha's. In the books, so far, Asha has played a much bigger role but if they combine Osha and Meera then obviously Osha will be more important.

I don't know how this will change Rickon's storyline. They could have him go with Bran, Osha, and Hodor beyond the wall but this obviously changes Davos' story line in ADWD and likely TWOW. If I had to make a guess, I think they will hide Rickon with the Reeds. It is my belief, and Warden's, that Howland Reed is going to be far too important in the last two books to not be included. So they may exchange Rickon for Meera and Jojen early in s3 and just not have them in s2 for budget reasons. It is two cast members you don't have to pay and they avoided having the big feast at Winterfell.
I agree about the Mountain. His scenes with Sansa in book one were great and obviously with Arya in ASOS. They haven't nearly developed him enough for his actions in the upcoming battle, his kiss with Sansa, and then him and Arya on the road. I don't know if you saw that video I posted in the other thread but it was this reading that landed him the part of the hound. It was a shame they took it out of s1 and gave that part to littlefinger.Originally Posted by zander

Not sure Beric or Thoros. I know they decided to eliminate The Blackfish.
And fuck, I am still pissed about Arya's storyline this season. She was definitely one of my favorite characters. I think they may have decided that her arc was had too much mature content for a young girl.
-
they've already introduced beric and thoros, haven't they? and you need the brotherhood for catelyn 2 and gendry
-
I think they will have Maester Luwin live and go with Rikkon and Osha will go with Bran.
A few items about this season:
No mention of Tyrion's plan involving the blacksmiths at King's Landing.
It appears Arya will not get her 2 bits and Jaqen will not perform his face/off act
And I don't particularly care for Robb's out of place POV story with the not jayne westerling girl.
This show needs 14 or 15 episodes per season to hit all the high points of each volume. -
You are getting people mixed up juice... that is The Hound. The Mountain is his ginormous brother that rode against the Knight of Flowers in the tournament in season one. The actor who plays him was changed for season 2. Although I do like your video.
-
yeah i noticed that after i reread my post but the edit time had already expired. i never proof read my posts before posting, probably should start. I have been having a few conversations the past couple of days about the hound and how he has been poorly developed in the show and I was planning on making a post about it and when i read zander's post my brain decided to suck.
Edited By: qjuice14 May 26th, 2012 at 05:38 AM
i do think that both the Clegane's have been underdeveloped in the show. The Hound for the reasons I gave above, The Mountain in hiim fucking up all the villages and his basic disregard for human life.
I really don't know what would be the optimal way to develop all these characters in a tv show format. GRRM really has created so many great characters that need to be in there but it sucks devoting 2-3min/episode to each character, and when you only have the budget for 10 episodes you can't devote 1 episode to 4-6 characters and rotate. Perhaps Westeros/Essos is just too big and this story too rich to fully do justice and these cuts are necessary.
Also, just gauge where people are - has anybody read these books more than once? I think the story is so damned layered and complicated that I imagine there is tons of value in a reread. In fact I think A Dance With Dragons will actually be better the second read than it was the first time. I didn't read the first book until after season 1 so I never had to deal with waiting a few years for the next book. I definitely plan on rereading all the books right before The Winds of Winter is released but if it takes too long I might break down and do it sooner. -
Lord of the rings meets the wire is the best possible description of this show I've ever hear.
-
The only people who care about the books are the people who haven't read them. Just check the other thread where they can't stop talking about them.
-
where is the thread for people who stopped after Storm of Swords to let the TV show catch up? I don't want the 5th book spoilers so I'm just going to complain about something that I can easily avoid
-
loooool
-
Can you still follow what's going on in these shows if you never threw 12 sided dice before?
-
Have no idea what that means, but i will in a minute after I google it...

EDIT: Ok, so wikipedia to the rescue, and also discovered that basically a 'gamemaster' can just arbitrarily change game rules
