    No fucking way...dealer at the Sands Casino here in Bethlehem is a huge Terps fan and went to UMD and told me like a month ago Gary was going to retire this offseason. Rumor was *once again* he did not get along with the AD and was fed up with it. I'll miss his coaching, not his recruiting thats fo sho.

    They also arent in the top 30 as far as recruiting classes according to rivals.com

    good for the program long term IMO, assuming they make a good hire (could be difficult right now tho)

    was a damn good coach, but only 2 top 3 finishes in last 9 years in ACC and no sweet 16 appearances since 03... they had a real good year in 09-10 and still lost in 2nd round

    meh. program will be fine... I think

    The truth is hard to swallow but you nailed it. Just really hope they can get a good hire. I am so sick to death of the ACC dominance that Duke and UNC have.

    Maryland athletics are pretty ugly right now. Hopefully Edsall and whoever replaces Gary will inject some excitement.

    Debbie Yow is a pretty damn good AD in terms of a whole athletic department. UMD accomplished a lot under her reign, I'm sure both are to blame for their fallout.

    This Maryland opening is ultra-attractive - even more so in the post-Debbie Yow Era. Just about everyone will listen if contacted.

    Wonder who they get or if they go interim for this year.

    It seems wierd if he knew he was retiring to wait a month after all the hires. Im sure he respects his recruits and the program but maybe he just wanted a big FU to the AD

    Im a big fan but you could tell in recent years he was tiring out...imo. it is time for some new blood. I will always appreciate thr great years he brought and the national championship and how he could bring out greatness in teachable people with potential.

    He has slipped tho. Im glad he didnt drag it out too long and force us to ride a retirement tour for 4 years. Thatd a classy move by a classy man.

    No sense going on once youre tired and things seem stagnant.
    kind of a relief tbh. But i still love him! Weird feelings here.

    It will always be GARYLAND!!!!
