Ok, so I used to play 360 a lot in college and had a subscription to xbox live. I ended up cancelling it because I wasn't really playing at all. I'm about to go buy Madden 2010 and would like to re-activate my LIVE if it is possible...can anyone tell me if that is possible? In other words, I just want to re-activate my old gamertag. If this is not possible, should I buy a new live subscription (say a 3-month), at the store or how should I proceed?

when you turn xbox on it will prob ask you if you have an existing gamertag or something along those lines.
but worse comes to worse, its only $50 a yr for a new one... -
Yeah, I am completely clueless. I used to just run an ethernet cord from router to the xbox, but I moved and my router is now in a bad area and I would have to run a cord through my entire place. I assume it will work if I just run the cord from my modem straight to the xbox? I did this and went thru "test connection" and it said and it failed the IP part of the test. Is this a problem or is that just because I dont have live?
-
You need live
-
This is lame. I am running a cord from my modem straight to the xbox and it keeps failing the connection test @ the IP part. It says it is not recognizing an IP or something like that. Does anyone know how to fix this? I restarted the modem and it still will not work. Pleaseeeee

try unplugging the power and cable cord from the modem for 5-10 seconds after you've hooked it up to your xbox then turn on your xbox.
-
Ya I thought this might be the problem and I did that, and it still is not getting an IP :(
-
i just tried to sign up for a free account so i could download a roster update... then i was told i could get a free month of gold. so i obv did it.
of course, i have yet to even sign into xbox live since i got that live month. odds are i'll forget i signed up for the service then get charged next month, and never use it obv. -
Do you get internet connection when this same cord is plugged into your computer?
-
u got a router?

Yes, all I'm doing is taking that same cord (that is currently hooked into my computer), unplugging it, and plugging it into my xbox console. Once I did that I unplugged my modem, waited for 30sec, plugged it back in and tried to sign up for live but I keep failing the IP part of the "test connection".
-
Ya I do cuz my girlfriend mainly uses her laptop so she just picks up the wireless. I don't have an extra ethernet cord and my router is in a bad location so I'd have to go buy like a 50-foot cord. Do you think this is what the problem is?
-
i wouldn't recommend playing xboxlive through a wireless connection so yeah get an ethernet cord first. what kind of router is it? if it's linksys, they should be able to help you out if you call/chat with support.

Are you connecting the modem to the Xbox without it being connected to the computer?
I was talking to somebody from Best Buy about this and they gave me the impression that the modem still needed to be hooked up to the computer to get the IP address. You may need a router if your modem doesn't have another jack to go from it to the Xbox.
I'm in a similar dilemma. My computer is a good 50 feet away from my Xbox 360 now so I haven't had live in over 2 years...but like an idiot I keep paying for it.. -

Not trying to thread jack but is there anyway to see who is online from your computer? -
Maybe that is the problem, cuz I'm not leaving it connected to my computer at all (just straight from my modem to the xbox). Like I said I do have a router, but I don't have an extra ethernet cord to run from my router to the xbox.
