Hope he pulls through. Much respect for George.

Edit: RIP Mr. Steinbrenner you built a dynasty and have a legacy that will live on for a very, very long time. A mod can feel free to edit the title of the thread, I don't think I can.

  5. Wow RIP Great Legacy

  7. this morning yankees owner george steinbrenner died from a "major heart attack" that occurred in his tampa home. he was rushed to the hospital where he died shortly after.

as much as i hate the yankees, steinbrenner will probably be in the HOF and deservedly so. he revolutionized free agency in baseball, and helped make the yankees into the team i love to hate. RIP

Note: couldn't find an article as SC just announced this

Edit: he died 10 mins ago so this better not already be a f#$^ing repost. if so my apologies

  10. RIP. Tough couple days for the Yankee organization
  11. does jeremy schapp just happen to have some look-back piece ready for any legendary sports figure who could go any day....?

    RIP George

    WTF,WHY?!?!?!?!?!

  23. A great man who gave millions to philanthropy, recovered the Yankees legacy, turned a $10M investment into a billion dollar franchise, mostly from just the passion to win. It's the kind of thing that makes America great.

Many hated him, some of us loved him, either way he deserved respect. Mr. Steinbrenner, you brought us back in the 70's, we struggled in the 80's, but the last two decades were ours. Thank you for not letting the Yankees history of being champions fade away, RIP.

PS - if there is a heaven, George, you don't have the authority to kick Billy Martin out (you'll just want him back in a couple of months, anyway).

He's just lucky he was in New York w/ that "passion to win" otherwise he'd have been busto in any other market. Kinda sad though only 7 ships in 38 seasons.

Listening to them talk about how he was a football coach, etc, wtf did he get the initial $10m to buy the franchise?

  26. RIP Big George

are you fucking kidding? kinda sad? two other teams in baseball have more than 7 in their entire fucking history!!! and that's even counting the athletics' time in Philly and KC. The mets are in the same market and have 2 in their 40 or so years of existence. No one else has had a comparable 38 seasons - and that's even realizing that Steinbrenner took the Yankees on because the last owners were losing fucking money. The retardation of your statement is so ridiculous I'm on life tilt right now.

He got the money to buy the yanks as chairman of American Shipbuilding in Cleveland. He died worth more than 100x that amount.

Obviously grief interferes with your sarcasmometer.

  29. LOL - how do you not win more than 7 ships in 38 yrs when you can purchase your own all-star team?

About the team losing $$ prior to him purchasing them. That is probably more a reflection of how terrible the management was prior to him coming aboard more than anything.
