Ok. So I've got some over crowding on the upper area, and I've been wanting to take care of this forever. I went to the dentist today, and there are a few things the orthodontist was telling me that had me thinking. Also I researched how much braces normally cost so when they gave me their financing options it didn't surprise me, but was curious what advice you guys would consider.
First, they mentioned I was not covered under the insurance of my parents b/c they only cover up until 22, obv bad beat, but I'm going to try and get that taken care of since I'm still a full time student. The dentist also seemed a little hesistant about getting braces started right away b/c maybe since I'm graduating soon I could find dental coverage with whatever company I'm with. Their plan costs $4,995. Is that about average?
So I'm new about braces and the whole dental deal. I guess having braces is a little ice breaker for getting a job. But is choosing to do this basically with no coverage the right decision, or should I wait a little longer to get this taken care of? Having crooked teeth has been irritating for a few years now, and it's something I want to start and finish before I get any older.

Should I get braces at 23 with no coverage, or should I wait until I get a job? -

hahah. exactly. it should be an insta hire.
they also have the glow in the dark kind, but i think i'd get jumped if i were out in the club. -
Get it done now...who cares about your age? I had braces until I was 22...I always found it ironic that the only people to make fun of me were the ones with ridiculously bad teeth.

Is it just your front teeth? Do you remember if he said anything about crossbite or being class 1, 2 or 3. Is the only reason because you want to eliminate crowding? The insurance isn't going to cover the whole amount anyway so forget that. Do you have insurance for oil changes, but you still go get them. You want Invisalign (clear trays that you wear for 2 weeks at a time) then change. It normally takes about 6 months to finish the case. Let me know where you live and I will find someone close to you that has done tons of cases that will do a free consult. You don't want metal braces at 23. Average price for both braces and invisalign is about 5000 to 5500

did they say anything about if invisaline (sp?) would work for you? i know they are a lot cheaper and obv not having metal in your mouth is +ev

just move to england

Hey thanks Doc. Yeah I remember him mentioning a class 2, and having an overbite I believe. I also figured insurance doesn't cover much to begin with, especially what we've got which is why I'm looking to take care of it asap. I would appreciate the information you could pull for me, I live in San Antonio, Texas, specifically area code 78023.
