  1. Who do you guys buy presents / gifts for during the holidays?

Apparently it's customary to get stuff for mailmen, doormen, garbage men, etc.

What are some reasonable gifts? Or if I were to give cash, what's a 'fair' amount?
  2. i always give cash to service workers.

    Trash crew $30 (3 guys)
Fed Ex, UPS, Mailman $20 each. ( i order most of my gifts online, so they're here a lot)
    Deerpark guy $20

    i think that's it.
  3. Seems really odd to me you guys do that, nothing like that over here in UK.. I cant be arsed to get my girlfriend anything let alone the postman!! lol

  4. I've never given Christmas gifts to my mailman or garbage man and I'm pretty sure I won't be starting anytime soon. The only people that get gifts from me are immediate family. I'll send a card to grandparents and other family members.

  5. never given gifts to postman etc. either. weird concept imo.
  6. I've literally never even seen one mailman at my house. So I have had zero interactions and wouldn't even know how to tip him if I wanted to because I never see him.

I did start leaving tips at hotels though thanks to OT.

  8. I could see you giving your mailman cookies or baked goods (with weed in it obv) during the holidays if you were a 60+ year old woman, but straight cash, no way dude. They are getting a decent wage/benefits and the holiday season is just part of the job.
  9. I worked for UPS up until yesterday, turned in my 2 week notice last week...Got fired yesterday for 'overstaffing' after training 2 guys but have a new job in a new city & I understand I didn't 'quit' during a non peak season. But last holiday season helping deliver for them, the driver & I got gift cards(for new shoes, restaurants, a lot to wal-mart), baked goods, bottles of wine, turkey a piece, various homemade crafts i.e. blankets, paintings framed, other art & tons of cards. It was unbelievable how much people gave us, I had no idea people did this until last year. So this year garbage-men, mailman, AC/Heater guy & the breakfast taco lady are all getting something.
