Skeeze or anyone review the American remake? I'm on vacation today and don't really feel like sitting around all day doing nothing. Really thinking about pulling a solo trip to the theater to watch this movie. It's either that, Hugo, darkest hour(lol), or the Tintin movie.
TGWTDT is 160minutes and has a ton of good reviews so I'm thinking it's a no brainer. Gonna have to grab a bunch of candy and go hibernate in the theater for the next few hours.
up next, the "anyone go to a movie alone?" thread -
Saw it friday, won't disapoint. Hit the cheesecake factory too.( thread)

Def a great movie. Easy to see why it got the NC-17 rating before they down graded it to R.(I think)
I hardly ever hit up the movies alone but do it from time to time just for some alone time. -
Only just seen the Danish one. Cant be arsed watching it again. How close is it to the Danish one?

It's pretty good if you haven't read the book there are some plot holes but you can fill them in pretty easily. I enjoyed it and would suggest people go see it, reading the book before helps a lot since like I said you do have holes that you need to fill in but overall a good movie.

agree, i go to the movies alone from time to time. i saw tgwtdt and it was pretty good. enjoy. -
It isn't often these days that I see previews and want to go to a movie (as opposed to just waiting) but this is def one of those. Also I want to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie (I liked the first one not sure what common opinion of it was)

Great movie, saw the foreign version a month or two back and def was excited for this. I saw it 2 nights ago and it didn't disappoint.
I've never gone to a movie alone before but I think I will soon, seems chill. -
girls with tattoos are disgusting

Going to see this movie alone on Thursday. I like going alone, I normally go see movies on weekdays and make it to the first showing so usually there is like 4 other people in the theater and they are alone as well.
On a side note I've always wanted to go to a show where like 5 people total are in the theater and then go sit right next to a random couple. Just to see if they would say anything or get up and move. -
I'm not doing a full review for P5s, but I have seen it. I guess a quick way for me to put it would be something like this (probably shouldn't read if you plan to see the movie, but what do I know?):
It is definitely worth seeing. I never read the books, but I did see the original film and loved it. It is impossible for me to not compare/contrast the two films in my head when discussing them, but I did my best to view it as an individual piece of work. The score (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross) is awesome and bone chilling in spots - the entire opening is really cool also - sort of like a James Bond on LSD opening credits. I didn't think Craig was correct for the role when I heard him get the part and I don't think he was correct for it now after seeing it. He pretty much just gets the basic job done of being a character who has to solve a mystery, but doesn't add much depth to the role. I thought Fincher made a stupid mistake when he made a change to the plot for apparently no good reason at all, but it was enough of a change to make me mad in the end. If you really care and don't know what I'm talking about you can pm me for my thoughts on that subject (full spoiler included). The movie sort of failed to reach the same levels of suspense as the original, in almost every way, but both actresses playing Lisbeth did great jobs in their own unique way, and I think they both worked well. Since I didn't read the book I don't know what liberties were taken with either film, but I know that overall I still think the original was a better package, though both are good. I don't even know how I'd rate it to be honest, because on any given day it could be 4/5 or 4.5/5, but probably not lower nor higher. I also thought they finished with 20 minutes of fluff that brought the level of intensity down to such a low level I felt slightly cheated. -
just got back from seeing it...it was pretty good, not special. Definitely worth a watch tho

This years crop of holiday movies are really a bust. Maybe it is just me.. I usually see at least one movie while back home visiting family, but had no desire to see anything out currently.

not worth seeing unless the cinema has 4K projectors and a 4K master, it looks ridiculous

I wouldn't see MI:4 even if I was holding a Superman #3, Honus Wagner card, and 20k winning lotto ticket and WAR was holding a shotgun to my skull.

Reason: nothing but love for WAR -

My thoughts: good movie, but pretty pointless without a sequel. I thought the direction was rather brilliant, but I wasn't crazy about the story. I thought the movie could have easily been 30-45 minutes shorter. Spending so much time on the whodunit aspect of the movie really served no purpose. When the killer was revealed, I really didn't care. It wasn't shocking or anything. It was like the whole point of the Harriet storyline was to establish the type of relationship Mikael and Elizabeth have. To draw it out and put so much time into that seemed pretty unnecessary. I also felt like there should have been more emphasis put on why Elizabeth was so into Mikael. The change in their dynamic seemed to sudden for my liking. There were four conclusions to storylines in the movie, all which fell flat for me. 1. Who was the serial killer? 2. What happened to Harriet? 3. How was the scandal resolved? 4. What happens to the relationship with Elizabeth and Mikael?
All in all, it was a pretty good movie. I'd recommend it and give it a thumbs-up. I just think it's flawed and desperately needs the sequel to be made. I really hope it is. I'd give it ***1/2. -
Can't disagree with that review it really requires so much back story that you get in the book. Also the ending of the movie just changes a lot I'm not sure how they are going to tie it together with the 2nd movie/book we shall see.

all of this. fincher did a fucking amazing job no surprise there, rooney mara owned that role, craig was meh and the rest of cast was fine but nothing oscar worthy. however, i was a bit disappointed with the story- way too many storylines imo and not nearly enough depth paid to any one of them.

I've never been to a movie by myself... Maybe I should check that out.

haven't read the books but I preferred the danish movie to the us version. I thought fincher shot it well and Mara did very well as Lisbeth but I just much preferred how the story unfolded in the Danish version (ex. how lisbeth and mikael came to work together and a lot of the dialogue between central characters etc..), though I have no idea which stays closer to the books.

agree with many others that I can't understand why people refuse to go to the movies alone. i would much rather see a film with no distractions than with a friend/gf who is trying to making it a social experience while the movie is running.
