I swear she is computer &^%$&%^%. ok.
I ask her if i can use her comp to check email online..
she says her passwords changed and is written down by comp.
i try pass..no access..she says vista prompted her to change her password (swears she wrote down the right password and tries to blame vista) because it was x days old.
that's seemed a bit fishy to me but whatever....the problem remains..admin is the only account..
she doesn't know the password..did some searchin online...tried a couple things.
booting to safemode brings me to the same login screen..no luck..she has no reset pass disc..
saw some programs claiming to load as boot discs with the ability to reset or change passwords. but they were trying to charge $40-60...my 1st sugg was system recovery but she doesn't want to lose data..
$2 on stars for solution that doesn't involve reinstall or purchasing software..

thanks frank
very nice -
This happened to me on Vista. I thought I fucked up when I tried to remember the new password I entered. Couldn't figure it out for a few days. I called support and they said I'd have to reinstall. I tried again that day, and it worked. Not sure what happened, but if she can't get it to work I think she's screw-ed.
-
jerzee, there is no password hint and there is no password reset disc..
thanks for the effort man -
from the article:
If you forget the administrator password and don't have a password reset
disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the
password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be
able to log on to Windows and will need to re-install Windows.

in the article they say u must system restore:
I tried all the suggestions but nothing worked. Then I performed a system
restore because I didn't know what elese to do. It worked. I restored to
before I entered a password and got back into my account. Might be worth a
try? -
mozzer, you tried the same password and then it just happened to work that time or you finally remembered??
i have thought she would need to reinstall since the begining of this prob.but was hoping ot tech support would come to my rescue once again. -
also i cud be wrong but from past system restores u usually don't lose information like word files and such although i'd look it up...usuallly its just recently installed programs but not like actual files i think
-
This may sound dumb, but make sure caps lock wasn't on.
-
well, i think it just happened to work (maybe something else went wrong). All i did was capitalize my original password and add a number at the end, so was pretty sure I didn't forget it. Plus you have to reenter the password when you enter it initially, so you know its correct.
-
my second to last post says system restore is the only option
-
i can't log into safe mode jerzee. there is only one account..
I have tried many variations of her password including caps and whatnot.
good advice tho Ud2 -
have u tried typing no password and leaving it blank although allmost sure this is not the solution
-
you should be able to get into safe mode while the comp is booting up. Shouldn't matter how many accounts are on it.
-
will the demo version help at all since u don't' want to spend 40-60 dollars
http://www.password-changer.com/ -
jerzee ,I'm fairly certain i tried without pass to login to safe, but i will have to wait till she gets home to call her and have her try it to be sure..thanks again
-
i thinu can login in safe mode if u leave password blanc
-
the demo version doesn't allow you to change anything just teases you with a view of what you could change if you bought the full version..
so the next step seems to be have her try safe mode with blank pass, then system restore.
I will let you know how it goes
ty -
lol..my bosses..jk i don't work..
-
Your mom goes to college?!
-
Ok..tried to enter safemode while leaving password blank. no luck
anything else? -
