He emailed me saying his wife is in the hospital had a stroke and racked up lots of bills. They also have another car. He gave me his name and number
-
this is why i hate getting cars used, it's always some bullshit bill every few months when the repairs start. fucking unbelievably tilting.

You guna get scammed bro don't do it

If this is your experience you need to do more homework before buying a used car including getting a full diagnostic checkup before purchasing. I'd never buy from someone who wouldn't allow me to do that then at least split the necessary repairs before buying. Ive actually had better reliability experiences with the few cars I bought at 70k miles than the one I bought brand new.

He drives a supposedly (I say that out of ignorance because I don't know BMW's) expensive BMW but is hurting for $$$ to pay some bills so is selling it for $10k - $12k less than expected???
Tread VERY carefully. -
I disagree if you know what your getting into. I wasn't complaining about 2k in bills a year for the record, I fully understood that was the cost of owning an older 70k sticker price sports car. Loved every minute of owning it too.

Reason: shit tires are 1k alone -
This. BMW has a PPI checklist they will do for like 200 bucks. Could also ask for info like the VIN and call around to see if any dealers have info on the car. He should have service records for a car like that handy as well or if it went to the dealer for service they will straight up tell u over the phone what has been done and when.
-
any car that's like 5-10 years old is going to need more repairs than a new car, i've only bought a used car like once or twice but it's still true more often than not. I mean it's not like I bought the cars without doing some research.

a 2008 m3? just have your husband buy it for you. duh

Edited By: Sportbike33 Aug 14th, 2012 at 09:24 PMFirst thing to do... I would call him and ask the following:Originally Posted by Archie1106

Clean Title?
Clean carfax?
Make him repeat why he is selling?
Ask if its ever been in a wreck?
Tire life?
Always serviced at BMW?
Daily Driver?
Certified Pre Owned?
Extended warranty to 100k
Maintenance Plan at BMW?
these will get similar answers but you want him to fuck up, I predict that you will get an answer of my wife came down with a deadly strain of Chlamydia while traveling thru the Congo. I had to fly out to get her, adn the medical treatment alone will cost thousands. Unfortunately I can not keep my car, as it is too expensive to pay for with my wife's medical bills. that is why I am selling it thru eBay motors...yada yada yada
Reason: Im still interested, let me know how call goes -
only a complete dumbass would spend that much on a car while making that much money.
are you a dumbass? -
Edited By: swizbeatz Aug 14th, 2012 at 09:51 PMJust disagreeing with you when you said "this is why I hate buying used cars." I only buy used cars as does everyone else in my extended family.Originally Posted by AMARTIN1181

Sportbike, I recognize you from a previous BMW thread it was you purchasing correct? What did you get and how has it gone? I'm selling the m3 for a 2010 335xi or a more boring A4, well see. -
I hear you

there is obviously variance and luck involved too. U can buy a perfectly good car and then 6 months later it starts having problems and ends up being a lemon. U can read all the consumer reports u want and have a mechanic look at it but some cares just get fucked up, even if u take really good care of em. -
That is a true statement, you will get burned occasionally.
-
buy something that will put money back in your pocket instead of lighting it on fire.
-
I Traded in my Tacoma for a 2012 corolla in December.
Whatever you do don't buy a corolla -
Things you can't realistically afford for this car making $35k (unless you live at home with mommy):
Edited By: El Burro Aug 14th, 2012 at 11:10 PM
Premium gas
Tires
$75-125 oil changes (you aren't taking an M3 to Jiffy Lube).
Other routine BMW service (spark plugs, brake pads, belts, transmission service, fuel system cleaning, etc.)
Non-routine service/replacement (clutch, brake rotors, rims, etc.)
If you live at home with mommy and can swing spending ~50% of your net income on a car payment and maintenance, you should stop living with mommy.
EDIT: I agree that this car probably has a salvage title. None of the expenses above would be reduced because of that. In fact, some could be more frequent. If the car does have a salvage title, you won't be able to trade it in, and will only be able to sell it to idiots. -
I bet getting the masturbation stains out of a bmw would cost a pretty penny. Of course, that assumes you want to resell the car.
-
50% scam / 49 % gonna be major issues / 1% good deal
-
$125 for an oil change? Gtfo
-
It's true, but you only change the oil in a BMW (at least newer ones/mine) every 15-18k miles. That's why you pay for the extended warranty to 100k, you don't pay anything at the routine maintenance appointments.

Edited By: Sportbike33 Aug 15th, 2012 at 02:25 PMYeah I bought a 2007 335i (you have a great memory bc that was from Feb 2011). I Loved that car, stock with the twin turbo's its faster than the older body style (E46) M3's. Not sure what your bankroll is right now, but look into the 335is... they just came on the American market, and are pretty bad ass. Either way, I highly suggest this car, was a fun ride, girls loved it, and was dependable. I put 20k miles on it in a year and never had an issue.Originally Posted by swizbeatz

Reason: NO go on A4, you wont be happy -
Come on bro, your posting on an internet forum so you should be able to do some basic car research. Change your damn oil every 5k miles.
-
I've driven one, it didn't feel anywhere near as good to drive as my e46 although it is a little faster in a straight line. The two major options I need are 4 doors and AWD. Love the 335 coupe looks, not sure I can do the sedan though so I may just go for the A4.

Norcal, you sure do have some animosity towards BMW. Obv. not not the car for every one but they are highly regarded by people who enjoy driving. If you only look at driving as a way to get from one place to another, there are better options. But some of us like to drive and maybe spend some time at the track. Its debatable, but a M3 might be the best choice if thats what you enjoy. Not sure how that makes you a forever masterbating woman. To each his own, but cluttering up a thread with your personal ego problems when you have no facts or real life experience, doesnt help any one. Troll on.
And oil changes can go 10-15k miles with no issue with todays synthetic oils and normal use There are plenty of studies out there to back this up. Look it up if you really care. The only people still holding on to the old "every 3K miles" would be Jiffy Lube.
