by dhubermex on 9/2/2005 01:20 </TD><TD><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><TBODY></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR><TR><TD><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD>Since this is my very first post on Pocket 5's, I would first like to thank all of those who have posted before me and provided useful information to all of us. For those who would like some background info, my name is David, I'm a 30-year-old married father of twin boys, Johsua & Kevin (they are 2 years old), and I am an English/Spanish translator/interpreter here in Mexico City who plays poker 40 hours per week... that's right, Mexico. I'm not sure if it's harder for my online poker colleagues to believe that I'm really 14-tabling from Mexico City, or for my friends down here to believe that there's actually a way to play poker online for real money! (I'm originally from Gonzales, Texas).
Now, first of all I'd like to communicate two things to anyone who reads this post/article. 1) Yes, I really do 14-table (or more every now and then) low-buy-in SnG's on Poker Stars on ONE 15" Laptop screen, and 2) I am NOT a top player, nor do I pretend to be. I have only been playing online for a year, and have only a few months ago started making money playing poker instead of busting out either from lack of ability or tilting. Never once in my life have I stepped inside a true B&M cardroom. Although poker has accounted for a large portion of my not-so-impressive overall earned income in the last few months, my main goal when I start-up every round or session is to simply play as well as my ability allows, and to try to improve my game by learning from mistakes and situations that present themselves. Since I see 3,000 hands on any given day, there is no doubt much to be learned every session I play. My bankroll is far from substantial, yet it allows me to comfortably multi-table the $5 and $10 SnG's pretty much to my heart's content. I am certainly not worried about going on any type of "bad-run" since I could care less about not cashing in 12 straight, or having a negative ROI% for a set of 200, or being down 20 buy-ins; AS LONG AS i'm playing to the best of my ability, consistently getting my chips in the middle in situations that are beneficial to me, and improving my game at the same time. Overall I suppose I've played only 2,000 SnG's in the last year, which really isn't all that many compared to some others. But by playing 50 SnG's per day, I should be able to gain invaluable experience very quickly in the coming weeks/months.
So, for those who are thinking, "How in the world do you 14-table on ONE screen?", I can only reply that it's much more comfortable and relaxing than playing 1, 2, 4, or even 12-13 tables at a time in my case. The most annoying thing is that it's so hard to get SnG #'s 13 & 14 started because Stars takes you directly to the SnG "lobby" where you have to register, making it tough to get in the tourneys before they fill up when you're playing so many other tables. There are others out there who play more tables than 14 at a time, for sure. I'd go knuts if I had to sit there and pend my emotions on only a few tables, or if I had to actually LOOK AT all those entire tables at the same time. The images on Poker Stars are sufficient enough for basic recollection, and there are times when I'll recall that the "guy with the Kramer from Seinfeld image" raised my blind twice in a row and called his baby pocket pair all the way to the river. The $5 and $10 SnG's don't seem to present any problem for 14-tabling so far, but I'm certainly not ready to try it at any higher stakes. For now, I'll be content with the small but steady profits since I've been using the money to support my family.
14-tabling definitely isn't for everyone though. There are distractions that have to be dealt way BEFORE you even start a round. The initial headache/nausea took about 3 days for me to get over. Telephone and bathroom breaks are out of the question until you're down to only a few tables. I'll usually play 28 SnG's in about 3 hours, then eat and go for a 2-mile walk so I can think over all the mistakes I made. Then I'll take care of personal business and do another 28 or so. If I'm lucky enough to have translation work, then my poker playing takes a back seat to the higher-paying projects.
What I would like to do in the future is post a bi-weekly/weekly diary of my experiences playing on Stars. I've read many other blogs that have been very helpful and full of useful information, so if Pocket 5's will allow me, I'd like to return the favor. I've only recently turned semi-pro, so if I share some of my failures/frustrations/triumphs, I feel that I could provide a very accurate account of what it's like to take the game seriously at the very-low limits and depend on poker income to pay some of your bills. If there arises a situation in which I may be of help to a fellow Pocket 5'er, or (the most-likely scenario) if another Pocket 5'er has something he/she would like to share with me that could be a positive influence on my game, then consider me available at your convenience. Finally, I would like to thank fellow Pocket 5'ers "Batera", "OCG" and "PrincessGlo" for their assistance and friendship. I look forward to any feedback and I'll post again in a few days.
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and good luck at the tables !!!

I just wanted to get some people's insites on how they concentrate while playing online. I have been a consistant winner in live cash games and tournaments for around two and I find so much more easier to focus my thoughts on the game while I'm actually sitting at the table. While I'm online I always seem to get distracted, whether it be by the television or just browsing the web, and I find myself an hour into a game without any knowledge of the players around me. I want to be a winning player online, and I feel this is one of my major downfalls.
I was also planning on registering for pokerxfactor.com, i feel like it would help me out a lot more too.

I think it is unfair that deal-making is available to some players but not others. I know legggy was able to contact memberservices and arrange a chop in last week's sunday $500. Also it was done for SCN2, although obviously you had plenty of resources dedicated to that tournament. My opponents were ready to go for a deal when I was chip leader - the fact that I was not able to contact UB immediately regarding a deal probably cost me almost $20k. With so much money at stake, how can their not be a representative of the site on hand on *sunday*, the big tournament day?

the truth about bmac: I was a PD johnnybax fanboy my first few weeks on p5s. I have evolved though, so I try not to flame noobs, they just need time to understand the folly of their ways.

Most of my early posts were lame. I am not proud of this one, but look who replies.

Raise twice the big blind. Check the flop, and hope this entices your opponent to bet on the turn. Then quickly raise his bet the minimum. He'll likely call at this point. Then bet the minimum on the river if you're first to act of if he checks it to you. All the action and minimum betting will likely confuse him. TY for announcing that. I wasn't going to post it. I'm so gay. BUT that was before I realized that this shit is rigged and I was better off just heading straight to OT.

Not proud? I think it shows marked progress from the first two. It's your Taxi Driver.

Im a visionary. I found mine

my first was six days after i joined:

i've never been to mississippi, but i can tell you that most places in vegas are 10% of the pot up to $4. it will be written on or near the same small placard that states what table you're at and which game and limits you are playing. and don't forget to factor in $1 for a jackpot or promtional drop, if they have them in the room you're playing in. some rooms will use quarters to get that extra bit from the pot (if the pot is $25, they will take $2.50, $28 $2.75 and so on).
when the rake is actually taken from the pot also can depend on the room and the game. when i worked at the palms, we took the rake at different amounts in different games. $5/10 NL got raked at $50,100,150, whereas $2/5 got raked at $20/40/60. when i moved over to green valley ranch they just took a straight percentage rake, so even in a $5/10 NL game you would have $4 out of a pot with just four limpers.
long answer to a short question. but it might matter to you!
And 22 days after I joined I finally was brave enough post in OT.

boone's hands down. you could buy the stuff for like $1.50 a bottle when it was on sale. i had a party once where i provided like 48989403282390840 bottles of it and it cost me like twenty bucks.
the purple flavor of MD brings back memories though. at a party once, a bottle of it got left outside and was used as an ashtray. after it sat out for two or three days in the phoenix summertime heat, a friend of mine got really drunk and finished the bottle. he believed strongly in not wasting booze. he left the cigarette butts in there, though. grosssssss. -
Reading through all those early posts reminded me what I started to hate PD so much.
Anyway, here's a gem if anyone missed it: Get to Know Your Fellow OTers, featuring bmclaughlin -
