Not really capable of doing a skeeze-style movie writeup at 5AM. I got into a private screening for it yesterday and all I can say is this movie is hilarious from beginning to end. It was so nice to see Eddie Murphy be able to be non-G rated Eddie Murphy again, and the rest of the all-star cast was excellent in supporting him. Ben Stiller is definitely the lead, and holds his own, but Eddie Murphy stole the show. I'd put this on par with Hangover 1 as one of the funniest movies/fastest 2 hours I've ever spent in a movie theater.
  2. Wow I thought the previews looked like a bust... might have to check it out tho
  3. so its going to rival Drive as the most horribly mis-marketed film of 2011?

Because tbh it looks like a giant turd from the trailer. Eddie Murphy's career has been dead for decades.

Hangover looked pretty dumb from the first trailers then it popped. So it's not out of the question that this may be good.

This actually sounds like a modded form of a movie pitched 7 years ago with eddie, jackie chan, owen wilson, chris tucker, bruce willis, and 2 others, a huge buddy cop flick.

Edit*** nvm quick look at RT says it's pg-13... weak.

Before Hangover I knew it would probably be huge since it was Galifinakis's first big role. I had seen a stand up DVD of his a couple months prior and he was instant top5 comic of all time in my mind.

and now that you mention it, if chris tucker and jackie chan showed up in the trailer for this movie u wouldnt be surprised at all

a better way to word it may have been to clarify stand-up comic. His Live at Purple Onion (i think) is one of the best stand up sets I have ever seen, imo.
  8. yeah, that's what i took it to mean. i'm sure it's a great set (don't believe i've seen it), but one set does not make him a top 5 comic.

    George Carlin
    Richard Pryor
    Eddie Murphy
    Chris Rock
    Jerry Seinfeld
    Rodney Dangerfield
    Sam Kinison
    Steven Wright
    Louis CK
    Dave Chappelle

There's 10 better comics off the top of my head.

Zero sets can make a top comic, imo, because you know, its my opinion.
Pretty loltastic to name 10 better comics without having seen the set I'm talking about. But alas, you are entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine.
  11. you lost me at "all-star cast"

Fair enough. I should probably see the set.

Just out of curiousity, which of the comics I listed would you put Galifianakis above?
  13. ok maybe top 7, i would put the following above him and the rest below:

    George Carlin
    Richard Pryor
    Eddie Murphy
    Steven Wright
    Louis CK
    Dave Chappelle
  14. Now, everyone take note: by being somewhat passive and casual, I got him to agree that I was right and he was wrong.

    BOOM!!!!!!

  16. No mention of Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks, Redd Foxx or Don Rickles among the all time great stand-up comics?

  17. Less arguing over which comedians are better all-time and more talk about this movie that looks like a huge turd but might actually be good.

Eddie Murphy was great in Dreamgirls, but that wasn't really a comedic role. Also his performances in Life and The Nutty Professor are very underrated, imo.

LOL, underrated; please refrain from using that word in a sentence unless you mention the incredibly overlooked performances given by Sean Patrick Flanery and and Norman Reedus in The Boondock Saints. I'll be the first to admit that Duffy's direction is sublime, but those two actors truly bring his vision to life with remarkable grit, realism and emotion.

Yeah... the only complaint I could have about the movie was that the rating handicaps it. The movie is 100% adult comedy, yet it's restrained by the rating so that it can appeal to more potential viewers. I can't imagine how epic it would have been if they just sought out to make it R-rated from the beginning. It definitely doesn't feel like a PG-13 movie. It feels more like a radio edited version of an angry Eminem song. You know there's more to it, but the censors came in and chopped it up.

Given the right script Eddie Murphy can still be very good.

who knows...maybe this movie will actually be good.

Not really. Boondock Saints (I and II) are probably the most underrated pics of the last 30 years. Waiting with anticipation for Troy Duffy to complete the trilogy.
