Not every bar visit is a social gathering to meet people and hang out with friends. some people like in your case go there to watch sports. some people go there to get drunk. you sound really insecure. A lot of men in bars are alone. Im not talking college age kids. Most grown men who work jobs (like you) and enjoy having a drink and chilling go to bars by themselves. What you're worrying about is only an issue in your head. nobody gives a fuck at all. you're in fucking san diego trying to watch a philadelphia 76ers game at 4 in the afternoon. I doubt anybody is gonna think its weird that you're the by yourself. nobody would care anyway.

Waiting in the parking lot for friends to arrive is MUCH weirder than sitting at the bar alone. A friend of mine used to do that and we all made fun of him. Once he stopped acting like a five-year-old with buddy system anxiety, he realized that there's nothing odd about going in by himself.

Bars were made for people sitting alone, ffs. Why do you think the only person you face while sitting at the bar is the bartender?

Doubt im insecure, ive just always thought it was weird. Maybe cause ive never done it. Im assuming (after reading ur repliea) that once i get there im going to think to myself, "wtf was i worried about?"

Personally I don't feel comfortable going to the bar at night (like after 10 pm) when the music is blasting and there's no sports on, as it is hard to be social and meet people. But for lunch/ happy hour, going alone if you are a working guy is completely standard. I used to go to this one bar very close to my house every Wednesday for lunch when there was a gap in my class schedule. Their burgers were really good so I'd get a burger and have a few glasses of Guinness, shoot the shit with the bartenders about Pittsburgh sports, etc. I also used to go to a bar for happy hour in DC sometimes after I was done working. I worked a 5 am - 3 pm shift, and dammit if I wanted a drink at 3 pm I was going to get one, even though all of my friends were still working.

Oh and when you have a steady 9-5 job, calling in sick once in a while and going to watch a matinee movie by yourself is awesome.

TBH bro it sounds like you are a little, worrying about what random people think about your friend count. As soon as online poker becomes legal in the US (pokerstars, not some intrastate bullshit), San Diego is my preferred destination, maybe we can get drunk together around 3 pm some days.

Shoulda just went to the WingBowl alone instead.
