    Title says it all. Going with work tomorrow. Really don't know much about handicapping. Any tips is appreciated.

    The odds makers know more than the public.

    Walk around and check the place out, watch from a few different levels. It is a beautiful place.

    dont the odds move directly related to $ bet, which is why they all start at 99-1?

    Take a pic of you and your horse and post it in ot. Right before the race starts tell the horse what you did. The horse will run away from you so fast you'll win your bet. Glgl!

    2 options for fun betting.

    $1 exacta box (picking the 1st and 2nd place horses) - pick 3 horses for $6 bet. To get decent prices, go with the 2nd, 3rd and 5th favorites.

    $5-10 place bet and let it ride until you get to an amount you feel comfortable with pocketing. So say you bet $10 on a horse to place and it pays $3 on a $2 bet, you end up with $15. Let it ride, placing $15 to place on the next race. Once you get to $20, pocket your original $10 and then let the remainder ride on the next race, so that when you lose, you can start all over again.

    A 2 horse box is $2, 3 horse box is $6, a 4 horse box is $12, a 5 horse box is $20, and a 6 horse box is $30.

    With the above example, you need 2 of the 3 horses to come in 1,2 to win the bet.

    Instead of listing each bet above, you say "$1 exacta box 2 4 7"---cost is $6
    2 out of 3 have to finish 1st and 2nd....only way you win.

    Like others have explained, the price of an exacta box is calculated by

    (possible number of winning horses) x (possible number of place horses)

    Ex: 4 horse box using #s 1-2-3-4

    Possible winners = 4
    Possible place horses = 3 (the 4 horses you boxed, less the one who wins)

    So for a 4 horse box, a $1 exacta box = $12, a $2 exacta box = $24, etc.

    Keep an eye on apprentice jock Eswan Flores, he is riding great and bringing home big prices when you least expect it. Del Mar is one of the best people watching venues there is in the world, although a Thursday might be a bit lighter than normal. Impossible to have a bad day there even if you lose every bet.

    I wont get a chance to look at the card until later, but if something jumps out I will post it. Unfortunately, it looks like Chantal Sutherland only has one mount today, she was just on Conan Tues night.

    Been to Del Mar 4 times this year and going again on Saturday. Bet any horse in a tri with Talamo riding it. Guy has been crushing lately.

    My friend's family owns a horse that ran last Sunday with him on it. Took first with 5-1 odds plus I hit the trifects (I'm bragging. That race alone brought me back to even for the year!)

    You can purchase a Dukes Card and Bobs Card for $3 each as you are walking in. They are professional handicappers and will look for horses that are good value. Look over each of their selections for each race and if they match up anywhere, bet to win or put them in some exactas for some value.
