  1. i'm looking for a new set of irons as well as a driver. i'm currently swinging Tommy Armour 845U Silverbacks and an old TaylorMade R5. The irons are ok but maybe my handicap is a little too high for them? Just wondering what's on the market these days for like an 18 handicap. Any recommendations? Also do you think its worth it to get fitted or can i buy off of the rack?

For drivers, obviously the R9 is sick. Just not sure I want to drop that kind of money. Any other alternatives?
  2. im around ur handicap and i also have an R5. i want to upgrade also but it's a solid driver. i hit my buddy's titlest AP1's a couple weeks ago and those are very smooth. id recommend those irons for sure.
  3. Not trying to be a dick but

It seems like you have a halfway decnt set Why not spend that 500 now on some lessons with a pro try and drop that handicap 4-6 strokes then the new clubs will make that much more a difference when your a teensy bit better, Because if you went and bought the best clubs money could buy i dont think youd be consistently lower than 4 strokes per rnd on avg
  4. so many tight clubs out now, just go somewhere where u can hit a bunch of different things for free. def get fitted. wait a year on the driver and buy a r9 for half price if u hit urs well but decide u want the r9.
  5. i see your point, but i'm not trying to buy the best clubs money could buy. all i was saying was i think my irons (although they are nice) are designed for a better golfer than i am. I'm looking to buy a set that matches my abilities.

  6. Misunderstood bro that awesome then I just always assume everyone wants the newest callway Tour irons cause they think itll help em hit it better. Carry on
  7. i have a nike SQ and i love it
  8. These might be alittle cheap for you. But I recommend buying these and then a nice driver and wedge set.

I bought these last year and the irons and hybrids are great. The driver sucks balls tho.

    insert facepalm pic.
  10. check around....some places will include the fitting if you buy from them.
  11. lessons, then clubs. i still have my old DCI's that i got like 7-8 years ago and to be honest i think id rather buy lessons and try to drop my handicap down to 5 or 6 again where it was when i bought the irons, then try and recapture the magic with a new set

tbh, if he doesnt want to spend the money on lessons to lower his handicap and learn to stroke 3-5 irons, then those hybrids would be the way to go for him. a lot of people think they are "too good" for the hybrids, but in reality they are too bad for the irons

those clubs aren't necessarily "Shit" per say..however, if anyone takes golf seriously, which it appears this person does so, they are not in his calibre.

I accept your challenge, I'll even give you a stroke a side. How much we playing for? $100 a stroke?
  15. fuck it who cares... just get these

    the hotness

I hit DCI's for awhile & loved them... Go to a shop and get your clubs made for you. Don't worry about who makes them, (Titlesist, Ping, etc) just get the ones that when your over the ball you feel comfortable.

If you are an 18 handicap, please don't buy Titleist irons. They are not designed for you.

this might have been true 5-6 years ago, but you would be hard pressed to find a handful of golfer who have this attitude. Everyone knows about hybrids now.

I'm about a scratch and i am looking to add another hybrid. there is no reason for anyone not to have atleast 1 in the bag.

  22. I hit the cobra L4V driver and have the new Titleist AP2's but I'm also not an 18 handicap

I suggest a cobra because they are ridiculously hot and really forgiving

ok, for most 18's they arent, but what if he's an 18 because of his 100yd and in game? i havent seen op play so i was just telling him a set of irons that i hit solidly and are well designed. he can take it fwiw.
  24. the titleist AP1's are actually really forgiving and I could definitely see someone that shoots around 90 hitting them

if you're shooting around 90 you don't need a Titleist iron is what I'm saying. If you shoot in the 90's you're just buying them for brand name recognition, there is so many more forgiving irons out there that are designed for your handicap. That is the biggest mistake high handicappers seem to make is just buying by name brand, you have to take an honest assessment of your skills and make the right purchase.

I have yet to come across a golfer that stripes their irons, hits 280 yard drives down the middle but cost's him self an average of 15 strokes around the green.

  27. I have an R7 I just got and Its beast
  28. If you are not worried about money, I would suggest you get fitted for clubs. Try out different irons and make sure you get fitted. This is the best thing you could do if you are trying to get new clubs. Being fitted for clubs actually can make a difference. I got fitted for pings and on a standard club I dont hit it nearly as consistent, but when I hit a club that fit me properly, I had such a smaller distribution. Which is so important in golf. If you know where it is going you can improve your game.

Im not gonna just suggest one specific club, because everyone has their own preference. So find one your comfortable with and get fitted for them.
