  1. Was wondering if OT had any pointers on how to cure a slice. I hit the ball straight with my irons in the fairway. But when ever i pull out the driver I always slice.

  2. Listen, you should really just pay aa PGA pro at a local club if u want to srs;y 'fix' ur swing. I can give u a quick fix tho. U are probably standing to close to the ball and have ur alignment out of whack.. Just do this... Go to a range ( the course is nowhere to fix a swing) and try taking ur normal stance... Assuming ur right handed, take ur address and then take ur left foot & move it away from the ball a half a step and then take ur right foot and pull it a FULL STEP back. It will feel weird but it will make u get through the ball. The reason u hit ur shorter clubs str8 is b/c the loft is higher and allows for more of a mistake... If u mishit an 8 iron, ur miss won't be as bad as when u hit ur 4 iron, etc etc. Just try diff things on the range but work on getting through the ball and if that doesn't do it just go get a lesson. GL

  3. U R slicing it cus ur hands are beating the club/clubhead to the ball obv. slow ur swing/shorten ur backswing for sttarts. throw it out when u swing like u r tryin to throw the club away. and SNAP ur wrists through the ball. just throw it out and snap it ez game shot an 87 the other day, of course by ot golf standards is horrible cus every1 on here dates 10s and can putt like Stewart Cink.

    lol don't do this

There are like 30 million things that can cause a slice and without watching you nobody can really know.

  5. Try taking the club back on a "lower" plane on your back swing. I had the worst slice, would go to range and hit 100 balls and couldn't make one hook or draw. Also rotating my grip so that my left hand is more on top and right is grabbing club from underneath has helped.

That will def make you turn over on the ball. I did this too. It works and helps you get used to getting round on the ball.
  6. Get a Pro to assess your swing AND the Club you are using. I switched shafts in my driver and It helped not cured. Still have technique issues but definitely help to have the pro look at the club as well.

    get a lesson or 10
  7. It's probably one or two of a few possible reasons: swing plane, ball position, hand position

The most likely reason for your slice, considering you're hitting your irons straight, is that you are taking the driver too steep on your backswing. Try and flatten out your backswing just a little bit.

You could also be playing the ball too far forward or too far back in your stance. If you're playing it too far back in your stance, the clubface won't get a chance to get squared at impact. If you're playing it too far forward, then you will slice it because your body rotation is ahead of your hands.

If the above two things aren't the problem, mess around with your hand position at address.

All this said, it's pretty impossible to diagnose a swing problem without seeing a video. These are just simple pointers that may or may not help you.

  8. post a vid of swing in 2 diff angles and i will help
  9. when the ball is on the tee try and keep it lined up with the inside of ur left foot, uve prolly got it lined up too close to the middle of ur stance

  10. surprising how awful all the advice is itt... if your serious about getting better, you should schedule 3 1 hour lessons with yoiur local pro... if youre not ready to invest that kind of money($150-400) then just get one lesson and the pro will be able to tell you what ytoure doing wrong and how to fix it... the only problem with this is a beginner will often over compensate and before you know youll be battling a hook... thats why i saw get 3 lessons, like one every 2 weeks or so, that way you can work on what he told you to work on in between lessons and the pro will make sure you are progessing from week to week....

  11. I'll throw this out there as well; adjust your grip so you see more of the top of your right hand when addressing the ball.
  12. Your Club is too long for you ! cut 2" of the top and install a new grip (obv) . Make sure you straighten out that swing plane as well .
  13. I would say if you get the face of your driver back to square at imapct, you will not slice the ball.

LOL, no there is one thing. The face is open. Teach me the pokers and I'll teach you the golfin?
  14. If you're just play for fun.... apply a bunch of chapstick to the head of your driver...easy fix, somewhat an edge
  15. A few random pointers that could be the problem ( but as someone above mentioned, quite hard to know without seeing as there are many possible reasons)

    1. Poor weight transfer - prob the most common cause for slicing i think. People lean back as they swing and follow through on the ball... big no no. body weight should transfer forward onto the front foot on the downswing/followthrough.

    2. Ball positioning too far back in stance - clubhead does not have the opportunity to square up at impact, therefore leaving the face open, causing a slice.

    3. Standing too close to the ball - Similar to above, and the swing with be confined an cramped.

    4. Poor grip - consult an expert or a golf pro, a correct grip is a vital fundamental in golf. Don't underestimate this.

    5. Uneven swing plane - club head should be taken directly back from the ball at the start of the swing, in line and directly linked to the intended direction of the shot. Normally if the clubhead is drawn back outside the line (away from body) the shot will be more prone to a slice. Vice versa, inside the line (closer to the body) the shot will be more prone to draw/hook.

    6. Initial setup/stance - are your feet, hips and shoulders square and do you have a fundamentally correct setup? another vital fundamental in golf. If this is not right, golf is hard, period. An incorrect setup can undo and undermine many other technicalities that may be correct.

edit - equipment is also an outside possibilty, although dont be quick to blame your tools. Shaft stiffness and the angle the clubhead is set at could possibly factor in

    I hope this helps

Sfthis! You can't fix a slice without knowing why you are slicing. You could be coming over the top, your club face could be open, your swing path may be outside in. There are many reasons and you can't fix it until you know what causes it.

You are on level one, whether it be golf or poker. Obviously, his face is open at impact, but there are a bunch of different things in his swing that could be causing the problem. He can't fix his swing by closing his club face.

same boat. I suggest taking lessons man. It helps a let!
  19. Lol, was thinking the same thing, like why would sc or anyone want this guys golf advice

sc is rout tho, can't say without seeing, but prob starts with a takeaway that puts you in a bad position at top, it's doubtful one little thing can fix it

surely coming from out to in would cause a slice as well as an open face?

it is pretty much impossible to tell you how to fix your swing without seeing it.

He would be slicing his irons if this was the problem.

This would be my response as well. It def depends on your swing but you should move your right foot behind your left foot if you're right handed
  26. best suggestion is to record yourself at the range and post here so we can see exactly what you're doing
