One of our college trips was to the Barton Creek resorts down in Austin Texas it was amazing golf, amazing weather and a great place to be off the golf course. I think there were like 5 different courses that are a part of Barton Creek and all of them were spectacular.
-
Don't know how far you plan on traveling but San Diego has Torrey Pines and La Costa close to each other with a bunch of casinos real close, as well. Not to mention a pretty stellar nightlife.
-
I've played pebble beach and the courses out at monterrey, that was sick, super expensive tho.
IMO check out the robert trent jones golf trail in alabama, the best bang for your buck..championship golf courses no doubt. -
Bandon Dunes
-
go to Hilton Head Island get a place on the beach.. play Harbour Town and the Ocean course in Sea Pines, play Robert Trent Jones and drive the 40 minutes to Savannah and play Savannah Harbour.. and also go to Dafuskie island
-
If it's really about the golf go to Monterey and play Pebble, Spyglass, and Spanish Bay.
-
spanish bay didn't impress me at all. Really enjoyed poppy hills which is like 5 minutes away though...shot a 46-34 from the tips there lol

My favorite course that I have played is Ko'olau in Hawaii. It's cut through a mountain rainforest and the layout is pretty awesome. It's considered to be one of the toughest courses in America from the back tees. Luana Hills in Hawaii is also amazing it's like taking a trip back to the Jurassic Era.
Wolf Creek is pretty awesome too. I dunno if you like desert courses but I thought that Wolf Creek was super fun. -
http://www.americanclubresort.com/golf/ws/ws_index.html Whistling Straights and other great ones here.
And as others said Bandon Dunes (Oregon)and Chambers Bay(Seattle area) or friggin amazing.
As a Canuck come North and play Whistlers courses and enjoy the evenings surrounded by 20 something Australian girls you can also get up high beyond seventh heaven and do some bowl skiing right in to July....and speaking of bowls we have loads of burnables. -
Really?

a. After playing Spyglass and Pebble it was nice to make more than a handfull of pars.
b. Almost he whole course is on the water.
c. Links course brah.... Pot bunkers and mounds in the fairway, roller coaster greens, sick trouble with foilage off the fairways.
It's def my least favorite there but I wouldn't say unimpressed. -
If it's in the summer there are a bunch of nice courses north of Toronto in the muskoka area one of the spots where all the rich retreat to on weekends/Summers
The Rock
Big Win island
Taboo
Muskoka Bay
Grandview etc...
All slick courses -
Monterey Area (if you don't have a hookup at MPCC or Cypress):
Pebble Beach - $495 (It's Pebble, obv super sick)
Spyglass Hill - $350 (Better overall golf course than Pebble, but only 5 holes of ocean views)
Pasatiempo - $220 (~40 min North but worth the drive)
Bayonet & BlackHorse - $100 ($60 after noon) EASILY BEST VALUE
Del Monte - $110 (never played it but heard it's solid)
Spanish Bay - $260 (never played it but have heard it's not worth the $$$)
Poppy Hills - $200 for non NCGA member (not worth $200 imo, under $100 sure)
CordeValle - $200-300 (play there all the time, great track - 40 min away)
And then there's a few tracks in Carmel that are public and decent. PM me if you want to know any more. -
Like Popper said, Muskoka has a bunch of sick tracks.
Pinehurst is a tough track to play. I played a Uni tourney there, so I'm not sure how much it actually is to play.
The Kootney's in BC are filled with golf courses too. Predator Ridge, Tobiano, etc. -
agree with zags that spyglass is better overall course than pebble. I remember getting stuck in that one weird plant they have everywhere and shot like a 95 but enjoyed every minute of it..hardest course I ever played, idk why they dont have majors there on the reg

My dad, my brothers and me have both planned golf trips at Pinehurst and Sawgrass. If your just going for the golfing experience i would choose Pinehurst. Pinehurst #2 is amazing and we played like #5 and #7 and i think #4 as well. Anyways the golf was amazing, the courses and course conditions were amazing, having a caddie for #2 was sweet, and the food at the resort was 5stars. But it had an old stuffy southern old time feel like you were still back in the 1950's and there's virtually no nightlife.
Sawgrass was sweet as we played the TPC twice while down there for my brother's graduation from Florida A&M. Sawgrass was amazing as well but it was hard for me to adjust to the grass down in florida and the rough even though it was only 2 or 3 inches thick really really grabs your club esp for the shortgame where your clubhead speed is slower and putting just takes some getting used to. My dad the 2nd day shot an 82 from the blues and shot the round of his life including hitting a 7 wood to 10 feet on 18 to 10 feet and made a birdie. (he shot 99 the day before). The nightlife in Jax is infinitely better than you would find at pinehurst FWIW.
I also made a mini trip to San Diego with my brother to play Torrey Pines but we could only get on the North Course that day but as for aesthetics I have to go with Torrey Pines as the course, the scenery, the weather and the ocean are just the stone cold nuts. And as someone said before you'll definitely get the best nightlife in San Diego.
Any of the resorts mentioned ITT will give you and your friends a bad ass time. Im getting jealous writing about this as i haven't been on a golftrip in over a year. As an addendum i haven't played Pebble Beach but my dad has and he said while the course is fantastic(its pebble) and the neighboring courses (spyglass, etc) are just as good at $500 a pop Pebble is just overpriced to some of the other great courses you can play for 100-200 a round. But every golfer should try and play Pebble once he said. -
Lemme know if you come to Austin, obviously the best part of Austin golf is that the courses are great but afterwards is great food and nightlife and the price won't kill ya. Arizona is a little more expensive with not as good of nightlife nor food , & then there are the real resorts like Blackwolf Run/Whistling Straits, Pinehurts, Myrtle Beach, and Pebble which are all very pricey and all about the golf. Have also heard great things about the Robert Trent Jones GOlf Trail in Alabama
