  1. I've been ok with every move this offseason except this one. Just when it seems like the Hawks have a long term answer in goal, he's gone.
  2. they still have Huet
  3. wtf, and season ticket prices up 20%

niemi long term. yea we won the cup with him but he did give a brutal goals like huet. No loss. Signing Hjalmarsson was way more important then niemi. Top 4 on D is the same. Not worried
  5. I thought the same thing, then I remembered this guy is the man...

    ladies and gentleman, Corey Crawford!

  6. so fkin retarded....

Stan Bowman takes all the credit for Dave Tallons team. He comes in now and can resign one guy and just goes safe and dumps everyone and wouldnt budge on the extra 250k for niemi. He saved our asses in the playoffs. I love how in the parade olchek says, if bowman doesnt go out and get nick boynton who knows what we would have done, because thats the only guy hes gotten. NICK BOYNTON?!?!? r u fkin kidding me. Not one word was mentioned about tallon. He was the guy that built this team and he didnt get any credit. Watch tallon go and sign niemi. Niemi is gonna be a star in this league and bowman just fucked this up big time.

This was very likely to happen-before all their cost-cutting moves, they had roughly $55M tied up in 14 players, two of whom had no chance of being traded: Huet with two years left at $5.625M and Brian Campbell, who carries a cap hit of about $7.1M for the next six seasons.

Yes, or not; they can only get rid of his salary by stashing him in the minors most of the year (as, under NHL rules, he wouldn't count against the cap) or trading him, so far as I know.

Yeah, this is a real shocker-they win the hardware for what seems the first time ever, and it's time to jack off the loyal fan base.
  8. Not sure how I feel about this. All I know is that I'm excited for the season to get here.
  9. Marty fucking Turco..... LOL is all i have to say
  10. you know it's not good when your team is taking on stars castoffs

  11. I actually like this move. Do you really think a 2.25 GAA on the hawks last year is any better than a 2.72 on the stars? Saving 1.45 mil is a big deal with the hawks cap situation. Yes it is possible (in my opinion unlikely) that the hawks traded away a franchise goaltender. But how well do teams who put a large portion of the salary cap towards the goaltender do? I've bolded goaltenders that made it out of the first round of the playoffs, and only Halak made the conference finals.

You have no clue what you are talking about. They didn't want to get rid of all these guys it was necessary because of the cap. They kept their best players/core and made some decent trades for the guys that were for sure being dumped due to salary. They would have loved to have kept all the guys they dealt if it was possible.

This exact discussion came up on Pardon the Interruption today and Kornheiser got ripped a new asshole by Wilbon for saying they were pulling a Marlins.

this is also called a "Florida Marlins" they did it the best to date recently 2 ws then ship'em out!
  17. On another note, people are failing to realize that goaltenders come with massive parody. Take for instance Tim Thomas... guy wins the vezena 08-09 and ends up riding the pine to a rookie tender in the playoffs. There are very few guys that come to play season after season and thats why guys like Brodeur/Luongo are so rare in the game. Dumping Niemi may have not been the worst thing but I really think they should have tried to trade him coming off the cup win, his value was as high as ever.
  18. Turco can be like having a third defenceman, but really, I think he is overrated. Only good series was against Vancouver a few years ago, losing 4-3 but collecting 3 SOs. Of all goalies out there, why Turco? To help pull Huet out of his slump? seriously wtf, I thought Bill Wirtz died, but his ghost must be running the team, as that guy did some bone headed moves.
  19. I pay so little attention to hockey I didn't know they had a salary cap.

    So I'm wrong, it happens.
  20. I'm fine with this move, it's not like Turco has a 1-9-2 at Joe Louis Arena or anything....oh wait

I thought the exact same thing when I heard the news. I'm gonna enjoy watching turco fold at the Joe 3 times next year instead of the once a year it used to be.

I really think the hawks will be sorry they tradedaway Niemi in the long run, but with the cap hell they are in I guess it's something they had to do.

  23. wasn't surprised with the news yesterday.
  24. "ladies and gentleman, Corey Crawford!"

just had surgery for what? or is that just rumors?

playing behind one of the worst D's and O's to one of the best D pairs in the league shouldn't effect his numbers at all. hes obv a washed up vet with horrible puck handling skills who cant quit. chicago didnt have a repeat chance before and now they def dont.

will be a top 10 G again easily imo. pk/pp should benefit too.

  25. If I was a Hawk fan, I wouldn't be too depressed about it. Turco at $1.3 mil vs Niemi at $2.8 mil is a better deal. Besides, we've seen Niemi for 1/2 season at most? I can't believe his name is on that precious cup.

I can't believe Colin Fraser's name is on the cup.

  27. soo, sharks better jump all over this. but i don't think they are. i always thought the sharks would get mr snowangel, good thing i don't have to worry about that now. though, turco is fun to watch, he'd fuck up more than nabby
