  1. In 1989 I pulled this card from the first box of Upper Deck that I bought specifically looking for this card, it was something that I will never forget for the rest of my life. I know that sounds kinda corny but growing up the Reds were my fathers favorite baseball team and following baseball as a kid and watching my father root for his team, I naturally became a fan of the Reds and Ken Griffey Sr.

Now I hear that his son has been drafted and will be a big league player the next year I want to get my hands on his rookie card, and pull it from a pack from the very first box I buy.

Over the years baseball cards lost their monetary value but this card always held up against all comers, all the special "insert" cards, the signature cards, and now all these cards with pieces of the uniforms or hats or whatever bs there is out there now, there doesnt seem to be anything "special" out there that retains any type of value. That being said, I really dont have a clue about the current state of card collecting, this is just my opinion.

I'm gonna try and speed this up at little.....I purchased a Gibson Les Paul guitar from a garage sale for a really great price, it was little scratched up but still a very nice find. A friend of mine was a very good artist/painter, so I gave him the guitar so that he could refinish it for me and customize the paint. This all was around the time of my 21st bday, and for an added surprise my friend replaced the back plate on the guitar with a custoim made acryllic card holder and put my prized 1989 UD Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card in it. This blew me away and together this was my most prized possesion. I felt like together these 2 items gave me my mojo.

Now, I still had a room at my parents house and kept alot of my stuff there cause my roomates at the time were standard 20 somethings and not very respectful of other people property etc...so I kept my guitars over there. My brother stole my Gibson Les paul with the card in it (along with many other things of mine and my mothers and fathers) to fund his growing meth. addiction, and I have never really forgave him for this, although I probabaly should.

But today, thanks to a craigslist add, I got a part of my mojo back....YES..

    cliff notes:

Pulled UD, GKG jr. rookie out of a pack back in 1989
Talented friend create 1 of a kind custom guitar with card for my Bday
Brother stole above item to fund meth. addiction
    repurchased mojo today for $10

  2. Glad for you. Funny, had 5 of those cards along with many others stolen by my sisters friend to fund pill snorting addiction while I was away at college. All my possesions worth anything were lifted while I was away. I eventually forgave her but it took some time. Material possessions, north worth the trouble.
  3. Wasn't that card supposed to be worth a couple of hundred or thousand like 10 years ago?
  4. i'm happy for you but putting a baseball card in a guitar is weird.
  5. Ha! classic, i remember that card used to be the holy grail back in 89-90.

Hell yeah it was! I got mine in a pack, too. I still have all my baseball cards from when I was a kid. I was going to use them as a retirement fund. If the holy grail was just bought for $10 I might have to start looking closer some other options.

This card is not "gradeable" but if you can get one graded they can be worth some $$, I think there has only been like 60/28,000 ever graded PCG10 and they retail for around 2.5k.

  9. Wouldn't it have to be the same card that was stolen to get your mojo back?
