  1. Fucking scammers piss me right the fuck off so here's the deal

My bank card had been "Comprimised" a couple times in the last 6-8 months in which everytime my bank said that there was a security concern and I had to change my card and get a new bank card #

So this sunday as I get waken up by a 1-800 number caLLING MY PHONE @ 8 I just ignore it and decide to get up (extremely hung over I might add ) and have a couple beers wqith my buddy to shake the hangover before I go golfing in a Tournament with my dad and my old boss. So I get to the course and decide to be a nice guy and buy the first round and go to pay with my debit card with gets dened and says on the terminal please consult branch. So I decide I shoul;d prolly check my messages remembering the phone call earlier. Check them and it says you need to go into your nearest branch asap and get things in order. I am quite pissed but thought it was just like the previous times so go on with my day and actaully save a bunch of coin as they paid for beers all day.

So monday I go into the bank like the message says and put my new Chip card in the machine and it asks me to change my P.I.N which I do no problem. Then i go into check my balances just to make sure everything is on the up and up.

Well I fucking nearly fell over when my balances read $8.11 and -$95.96 so I immediately go into the branch and find out what the fucks up. Teller asks me to go thru all the transactions and last time I used the card was friday nite so it wasn't hard at all. Those fucks ended up taking about $1940 bucks out of both accounts like 200-800 increments with me having possession of my card the whole time What a fucking joke

Couple questions for anyone with knowledge of this by working in a bank or fraud dept

How can I aviod this happening again?????

Does it take long it take to get back ??? and will there be any issues in getting it back
  2. Tough to avoid. Was the money pulled from an ATM or used to purchase things?

If you have a cool bank it shouldn't take long to get back at all. Assuming this is the first or second time you've ever been "compromised" for the most part they'll take your word for it to a certain amount I think...Im not sure about a couple of thousands, I know with a couple of hundreds they really didn't worry too much before crediting. They'll then have you fill out a couple of forms, but the crediting should be instant.
  3. either that, or that stag you pm'd me about went a lot better than you thought!

we still need to tee it up and get together for some beers kid.
  4. While I'm not as familiar with the Canadian side, I imagine it has to be similar to the US side.

Where you say this has happened a couple times I'm wondering how often your charge your card on your computer. Do you have a security issue there?

More importantly in regards to how long/do you get it back.

The simple answer is yes. In all cases in Merchant processing it's the merchant's responsibility to know who their end users is and do all due dilligence when processing transactions (i.e. copy of credit card/front and pick signatures) this is why I always laugh at Capital One's fraud protection commericials. As long as these are not pin based transactions you should be protected.

NOW, the one way you can get fucked is if you don't fill out proper paperwork. Normally you do have to sign an affidivat with your branch and I have seen cases where the branch loses the paper work. Really you need to get the name of the branch manager or a CSR that seems somewhat competent and stay on them until you get the money back.

Please PM me back if you have any specific questions.
  5. Thats why i like my bank.

Everytime ive gone through a day and started making a bunch of different purchases, my bank always calls me at some point (i forget the dollar amount) to verify its me using the card.

Hope you get it back tho, cause that sucks.
  6. I've had this happen twice with BofA. One case was negligent on my part, the other was some bullshit that I got owned on. Both times I was reimbursed immediately after signing their affidavit.
  7. mo money mo problems.

  8. Pretty much impossible to avoid, there are alot of fake debit machines out there (IE: gas stations, fast food restaurants) that can be used anywhere with a crooked employee. I remember seeing something on a program about how this certain set of thieves I believe from Montreal, would order some food from a drive thru, and as they were paying would switch out the machine, the orders for the next hour would get blue toothed to their van sitting around the corner. They make a fake card, bam have your info and your money is gone.

Can't do much but think of places you goto very often and use your debit card, (since its happened to you so much) and there are ways you can check to see if the debit machine is legit if you google it.

From personal expereince at my last job, their was a gas station beside us, one week over 15 employees had their banks compromised because the dude at the gas station fucked everyone over by placing one of these fake machines in there.

Edit: By debit machine I mean the pin pad part of it.
  9. It would be remarkably easy for a bank to offer a "swipe only" option for their cards but they won't do it for fear of lost revenue.
  10. This is why I never use my debit card (can't remember the pin also, I go to the bank to get cash)

I use my Credit Card everywhere and supposedly fraud protection, etc.

  11. Oh shit your Canadian and from Orangeville. How did they get the money? That's scary. I'm now wondering if I do anything that puts me at risk.

Be sure to investigate every ATM you use.
  13. I had my card they made a new one with my pin which they obviously stole from one of the card reader thingys and was all taken out of a bank machine

One thing is for sure when it does get resovled hopefully sooner rather than later i am gonna disable taking money out of savings and set a better limit

What pisses me off is I am certain of the place that did it some shady convienence store should I be contatcing the po-po to check them out

  14. Oh this was a pin based transaction? Not good.
  15. It sucks that this is so prevailing in Ontario.
  16. Thanks for explanation. I'm quite safe from this method then.
  17. at least it wasn't 30k

Well you always win when it's keyed in and they just get your credit card. Pin based is a little more difficult because it appears that the card was present. Given how prevalant it is in Ontario maybe you have some recourse here. Have you talked to your bank yet?
  20. Yup i filled out the forms and just playing the waiting game just had some shit i had to pay off and CC is high
