1. All 4 of these guys are insainley talented yet all of them might never win a grand slam in the next 2-5 years because Nadal and Federer are so f'n good. I know Roddick and Djokovic have won one each but lets face it Roddicks never winning a major again.

Honestly do any of these guys break through in the next 2-3 years barring another injury to Nadal? I think Djokovic has the best chance, Murray is prolly the most talented of the 4 but i dont think he is mentally tough enough, not yet at least....

Anybody else been watching the US Open? I know Football is here but the Open has been very entertaining. Couple of great 5 setters yesterday with Wawrinka beating Querrey and then that amaizing Ferrer v Verdasco match.

Thoughts on the rest of the Tourny? Federer v Djokovic should be a great match. I think Verdasco can play Nadal tough if he doesnt tilt out. Im pulling for Verdasco just because im not a big Nadal fan but apart of me still would like to see another epic Nadal v Federer Final. Should be pretty exciting....

    I know...Football tho

  3. The USTA is fucking retarded. It blows my mind that they continue to schedule the US Open Men's Final on the same Sunday as the start of the NFL season. The final of this tournament should be the main event of whatever Sunday its held on, but they moronically put it on NFL opening Sunday. We're almost surely going to see Federer vs. Nadal, and barring something totally epic, it'll be pushed back on highlight shows by football games. On top of that, no casual sports fan is gonna flip from the NFL to check out the tennis. This really, really irks me. The USTA desperately needs to fix this glitch in scheduling.

As for the tournament, I've watched pretty much all of it. I thoroughly enjoy grand slam tennis, especially the second week of the events. I think Nadal vs. Federer is pretty inevitable, and I think Nadal is going to complete the career grand slam with a victory on Sunday. On top of everything, his serve is just unreal right now. Fed is playing great tennis, but Nadal is unstoppable.

Unlike a lot of people, I will probably be watching most of the US Open final on Sunday. There are 16 more weeks of regular season football; I'm willing to sacrifice a week to see a potentially epic major final. It's gonna be Federer vs. Nadal, and that is must-see television.

  4. I went to high school with Querrey kids been a phenom his whole life, I assume that he will win a Major before hes done...I was devasted when he lost to wawrinka, but that guy is such a stud...Can't wait for the next major!

Agree with every word. Grand slam tennis is the nuts. I would actually rather watch it than football, and it really isn't close for me. Then again I really only block of weekend time for Mizzou football... andddddd sigh. The Chiefs.
  6. I don't think Federer is going to be nealy as dominant in years 3-5. He will still be in contention to win majors, but people are closing the gap on him and he is getting older. If Nadal's knees are able to hold up, he will win a ton of majors.

I agree Roddick is not going to win another major. He really should have beat Federer at Wimbledon two years ago and I don't think he has mentally recovered from that.

I feel bad for Soderling, because he is probably the 2nd best guy on clay right now, but he will never beat a healthy Nadal at the French.

Djokovic will always be in contention on the two hardcourts. I think he will win atleast one more, probably at the US Open as Federer gets older and Nadal wears down after the hardcourt season.

Murray gets too much shit for not being mentally tough enough yet. He is still very young and has all of the talent. Lets not forget that he is just a little bit older than Federer was when he won his first major. I would be shocked if Murray doesn't win 3 majors in his career, provided that he has good health.

Completely agree with Marinersheep about the poor scheduling of the final day of the US Open. I will also be watching Nadal complete his career slam over football. I do expect Nadal-Federer in the final, though Djokovic is looking impressive and should make federer earn it.

  7. Yes plz. Verdasco v Ferrer maybe match of the year (Isner vs whatshisname was long but boring as hell), they know each others tendencies so well, made for a sick matchup. Quality has been great this year can't wait for the finish. Go Fed!
  8. my TV wont be leaving football no matter whos playing tennis

  9. What this thread seems to be forgetting is that Juan Martin Del Potro is quite possibly better than all 4 guys in the title. He looked absurdly good before the injuries wiped this year out, and if he comes back as good as he was last summer, he's probably top 3. He is the only guy to beat both of the alpha dogs in the same major, and he came from behind against Federer to win his major.

Everyone who watches tennis in OT knows that I hate on Andy Murray more than everyone feels he deserves. That said, he's now at the the age where Federer had 4 majors, and where Nadal had 6 (at ten months older than Murray, he has 8 now)... the "he's young" thing is getting a little withered.

Once again, he came out and beat both Rafa and Federer in a circuit event a few weeks ago then came out and cracked under the pressure of the cameras, this time not even making it to week two. I think he's the fifth-best player in the world behind Delpo and Djokovic, but his talent level is much higher than his ability to rise to the occasion. I'm just not sure he has what it takes inside to be truly great, and I wonder how much longer everyone else is going to give him the same free passes he's been getting for a couple years now.

I'm 100% watching the final on Sunday, with football as secondary. Again though, if you take anything away from my ramblings in this thread, it's don't forget Del Potro.
  10. I didn't forget Delpo; I just chose to address this year's tournament. I hope the injury and long layoff doesn't ruin his career and that he comes back as good as ever. He is the cream of the crop, with such incredible game. He has it all. If he hadn't gotten hurt, he could very well be right up there with Nadal and Federer right now. I just hope he comes back and can return to form. Fingers crossed.

  11. im going to the us open today to see my first ever tennis match in person. kinda disappointed that im seeing wawrinka vs youzhny, two guys i never heard of, when the three other quarterfinal matches had nadal, federer, and djokovic. oh well

  12. Rafa and Rog are cool as fuck and straight up badasses though.

  16. Verdasco had pleanty of chances to win that first set, esp with the early break. You could add him to my list as well, dude is super sick. IF he can just find a way to win one set and get some confidence we could see another great match, prolly gonna be Nadal in 3 tho....

  17. Two thoughts-

I would put Nadal in the proverbial best athlete in the world discussion, with a straight face.

I am in love with Wozniacki, she's a class act all around, especially for 21.

  19. I don't know about Wozniacki being a class act, I watched her last match and at one point she spent 2 minutes arguing a decision the umpire made, she was wrong but wouldn't listen to his reasoning and then yelled you gotta be kidding me and walked away pouting. Maybe she is and just had a slip who knows. Anyway, she is great at tennis, smart money is on her to win.
  20. I found the camera time very entertaining, I guess sometimes I'm not a great listener.

    my love endures

  21. Was at the Nadal match tonight - he looked real sharp, despite the cold and windy conditions inside Ashe tonight. Verdasco was overmatched, but to his credit, he really did fight hard even when way behind. Just can't see anybody taking Rafa down this time.

After being down 4-2 in the first, Nadal completely dominated the match. He looks like he is on a mission to complete is career slam. I would be shocked if Youzhny goes more than 3 sets. I'd take the under on him winning 13.5 games

  25. Nadal really cranked it up at that point - I know he has his share of haters, but really the guy is all effort, and is a hell of a nice guy too - I'm the ultimate Federer fanboy, but I really love watching Rafa play, and couldn't be happier that he is the one taking the mantle from Roger. It was really interesting to watch during the changeovers too - was cold as hell in the stadium, and Verdasco was covering himself with towels the moment he sat down - Nadal looked like he was sitting at the beach on a warm day. Dude just has such a reserve of energy going for him all the time.

Yeah I'd take the under on that too. We had to wait for the night session to start to get into Ashe - the Youzhny match ran over in the day session. Was an entertaining match, but the level of play was nowhere near what it would take to even push Rafa to a tough set imo.
  26. Uh oh, our Girl Wozi just dropped the first set.
