i've always thought it was kinda cheesy to have a bunch of fake artwork hanging around but my g/f did up this place and put a bunch of salvador dali (i dont care how its spelled), vango and whatnot and it gives a nice feel to the place

if you have a half decent digital cam, save your fav. pics to a memory stick. Take the stick into Walmart. They'll make 9x12s for $4 each and you can get plain black frames for $10 each. Its cool, its personal, and its cheap to do.

I tried to go black and white but I ended up with these couches that are too comfortable to get rid of, so I was hoping to design the living room around them.

Just keep your eyes peeled. Put things on your walls that you really like. Quite often it is a process so just slowly acquire things. If you head out to buy a bunch of things for all your walls you probably won't really like the end result.

some good tips:

buy pillow covers and then fill them with pillows. this make them interchangeable. like right now my living room has orange pillows, but i could change them at anytime! (orange cause i have an awesome vols blanket over my couch)

posters are good decorations, but just buy frames to put them in. makes them look classier.

buy a mirror. hang on wall. it's good if the mirror has some sort of light reflecting in it to brighten your place up if it's dark.

go to wal mart, buy some plants. plants make a lace look homier, but aren't girly at all.

i hope you already have something to hold dvds.

get a nice tv stand, kinda expensive but worth it. mine has two drawers so i can keep important paperwork, video game stuff, etc.

coffee table and side tables..look at target. i got a coffee table for like 120 bucks there and it even has a drawer in the middle to hold junk.

lamps. i have a table lamp and a floor lamp. cheaper than the lights.

man flowers. i dunno if these really exist, but i hve a bouquet of fake flowers to complement the orange, green pattern i got goin on.

a picture of you and your g/f somewhere. she'll love that.

I'm in Toronto, ON, CAN. Probably a little far for you. I definitely need a new tv stand. Does anybody know where I can get like... a huge one? I kind of want it to take up the whole wall with maybe a floating cabinet over the TV I was thinking. My TV stand right now sort of sucks.

Definitely no posters. As you have graduated I am assuming you are older than 6. Posters are fine in one room of the house... the man cave, and even then you must be careful. Or if you have children, their rooms can have them too.

another cool thing i did...

take 3 pictures that you like...could be a theme of landscape, you and your gf, anything....just as long as it's 3 pretty uniform pictures

anyways go to picnik.com upload them (it's free) and resize them to be the biggest you can pretty much do. then edit them to make them really pop...you know like brighten certain colors, do some effects whatever the hell you want. or if it's landscape, make the water bluer, or make it black and white whatever.

upload to shutterfly as an 11x16 matted picture. it's not expensive at all.

then buy 3 frames to hold said pictures. hang them up, i did mine diaganolly (i dont' feel like trying to spell that) but you can do whatever you want.

if you wanna go bigger and do one picture or 2 pics that's fine. but usually the rule of thumb in designing is everything looks better in odd numbers.
