I havent seen a thread on this so i apologize if this is a repost.

I came across the Grammy Nominations last night and most seemed pretty standard and there were a few surprises in my eye.
I'm very glad Mumford and Sons got a nomination for best new artist (i even think it could be album of the year)
On the other side, i'm not very happy with the "Best Rock Album" choices.

excuse my ignorance, but what's the difference between album of the year and record of the year? They sound like the same thing.

Wikipedia says Album is for the artist whereas Record is for artist/writer/producer and I suspect focuses more on production value while Album probably focuses more on sales/songwriting (or, rather, I suspect that's what they allegedly judge when they're pretending this thing isn't a gigantic dick-suck-athon).

so what is the difference between record and song of the year?
