I usually post in PD, and not OT, but I need to share some gratitude.
I am an in-house lawyer with Safeco Insurance. I'm the guy that defends your business or you as a homeowner, when you get sued.
In April, Safeco made a deal to be sold to Liberty Mutual. The CEO of Safeco, who worked there for 2 years and 6 months, walked away with 17 million dollars.
I've worked there about the same amount of time.
Liberty Mutual has its own house counsel operation, so we knew some of us would be absored -- but many would not.
Today was like watching bad election night returns as office after office reported EVERYONE was laid off -- New York, Cleveland, Detroit, etc. In Orange, California, all but two gone. In Thousand Oaks, all but one gone.
My office is in Glendale, California. People were a nervous wreck today, especially the support staff. Crying from nerves, red eyes, anxiety attacks, etc. No one wants to start looking for a job in the worst economy in a generation and right before the holidays.
I just found out Liberty Mutual is offering me a position with no cut in pay or benefits...even better, of our 18 employees, 12 got offered jobs. Of the six that did not get a job offer, 4 were near retirement and got excellent packages -- they actually WANTED to go. The other two were not so fortunate and my heart goes out to them.
I just needed to express my gratitude in writing. -
very good news for you and your coworkers. i know if i lost my job right now id be so fked.

congrats, i'm sure this takes a lot of stress off you now.
keep working hard because i'm going to say that it wasn't luck that you were able to keep your job. -
Hope my mom is as lucky as you. Barclay's hasn't let her go yet and hopefully won't because she over 50 so shes stuck between retirement and having trouble finding a new job because of her age.

Congrats.
You know the inhouse people in Golden, CO? McQuiston, Robbins et al.
Just threw the et al. in there to look all lawyer like? -
How did the Portland & Vancouver, Washington offices do? I know people at both.
-
Pretty awesome man! Congrats! In this economy, even if you do not like your job, you better come in with smiles on and kick ass no matter what because if you are out there trying to get a job you are F'ed!

I don't know about Vancouver, Washington, but I know they kept 5 out of 15 lawyers in Portland Oregon.

I'm very happy for you Jeff! :)
