  1. Okay instead of creating a rock band of various members, who do you think the greatest rock band of all time has been? I'm not looking for who your favorite rock band is but who the greatest actually is.

I am going to throw out Aerosmith (they are no where near my favorite band). I can not think of a single other band who A. has been around as long as them, B. can still fill stadium size venues being as old as they are, and C. put out records that are hugely popular with the masses and sell huge quantities.

    What do you all think?
  2. The Stones..Zepplin if they were still alive/together.
  3. Lol, The Beatles are the greatest rock band ever, it's not even close.
  4. Yeah the Stones maybe because they are still together but the probelm with them is that all their new albums flop and they are living on their past hits.

  5. I don't think so (even though they are one of my favorites). They had a bright time while they were together but it really wasn't really that long of a time.

  6. can't be Aerosmith, they vanished for an entire decade. My vote goes to the Stones.

runner up would go to U2. They have been very consistant for 20+ years.

Personal choice, it's Pearl Jam hands down. Always make the type of music they want. Never sell out, and sound better now than they ever did.
  7. True, they did vanish for a while. But isn't being able to disappear then to make a most triumphant return (I must have watched Bill and Teds recently) a testament to their greatness?

  8. See, this is hard to answer.

You have two categories...Bands that have been together for 20 years, but are riding their older songs (Stones, Aerosmith). And you have bands that were together for a very short time, but those short years were amazing (Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Beatles)
  9. ladies and gentlemen, The Rolling Stones<B<OBJECT height="350" width="425"><PARAM name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tsFKbKk22SU"></PARAM> <EMBED src=http://www.youtube.com/v/tsFKbKk22SU width=425 height=350 type=application/x-shockwave-flash wmode="transparent"></EMBED></OBJECT>R>
  10. The Beatles have sold over a BILLION records. Honestly I wouldn't even put Aerosmith in my top 10.
  11. question was who was the best not who sold the most albums
  12. Floyd.
  13. Depends on what your criteria is then Slugger. I would say selling over a billion records would help your case...
  14. 60's - Beatles
    70's - Led Zeppelin
    80's - Rush/Bon Jovi
    90's - U2
    00's - Foo Fighters

  15. That's cheating.

    EDIT: Rush?? o rly??
  16. the greatest "band" is the E Street Band
  17. The Band is awesome as well.
  18. unreal that the Gratefull Dead hasnt been mentioned yet.....i know they are more than just a rock band...but rly, is it even close?
    1
  19. The Dead were a lifestyle not a Rock Band.
  20. The Doors
  21. Obviously The Grateful Dead is my favorite band, but i was being subjective. They would definately be in my top 5. Again, it all depends on what the criteria is.
  22. The Grateful Dead

    1965-1995
    2314 concerts
    37,149 songs
Millions of blown minds and smiles
  23. foo fighters? gtfo
  24. If you have Sirius radio, The Grateful Dead channel started today.
  25. Actually the question was "Who is the greatest?"

    ;)

  26. Hey DaVols,

I think Areosmith gets hits on every album they put out. They are hardly riding on there old songs.

  27. Yeah I love the Dead too however I'm not sure I would consider them a Rock band.

  28. Allright, what criteria do you use to decide on what makes a band great?

I would say a couple things for sure a large discography, albums sold, longevity ect.

    What else though?

    widespread panic
    led zeppelin
    pink floyd
    grateful dead
    ac/dc
