As in, just like any other involuntary sexual disorder, such as necrophilia or zoophilia or what have you, it is something which they do not have a choice over, their brains are simply wired to be aroused by that, instead of by what the other 99.9% of people are aroused by, whether they want to be like that or not. So, in this way, it is a "psychological disorder" in that it differs from the vast majority of the population's sexuality, as a result of various psychological issues beyond the person's control.

That said, just because it is a disorder doesn't necessarily mean it is a disability, in that it is possible for a person to have the disorder of pedophilia, but not be "disabled" as a result of it. They could still function in society like anyone else, if they chose to simply not act on their sexual preferences. As in, take an ordinary heterosexual male, who is attracted to adult women, but is not a good looking man. This man is attracted to adult women, and sees them on a daily basis when he goes out and about, but, there are millions of guys in that situation, who are ordinary heterosexual males, attracted to adult women, but are bad looking, who do not get to have sex as a result, but still function normally in society despite it. They don't rape women or treat them inappropriately, and just go about their business like anyone else, despite being attracted to adult women who they see on a daily basis when they go outside, and despite not being able to have sex with them due to being ugly.

In this same way, there are also most likely many pedophiles out there who are able to function normally in society, and realize that they cannot have sex with those who they are attracted to (children), due to the fact that children are too young for that activity and thus it would be wrong, so, they simply don't do it, or even attempt to initiate it, and instead just go about their daily lives and function as a normal member of society (in terms of functioning, not in terms of their abnormal sexual orientation disorder).

Now, obviously that isn't the case for all of them. Some of them choose to act on their sexual orientation and molest children. But I suspect that many do not, given that the vast majority of them are aware that it would be wrong, and just simply choose not to do it. Just like there are many people who fantasize about torturing or murdering people, but choose not to ever do it, because they know it is wrong. Some do (serial killers, etc), but many don't. It just varies from case to case.

I think it would probably be a good idea to try to treat pedophiles (not to be confused with child molesters (which are pedophiles who actually act on their orientation) as people who have a disorder, just like any other psychological disorder, such as schizophrenia, or necrophilia, or zoophilia or what have you. The idea being, some of them have already comitted horrible actions (child molestation) and for those ones it is already too late, they need to pay for their crimes by being put in jail. But for pedophiles that have not already committed any child molestation, who simply are pedophiles, but who wish to never act on their orientation, I think it would be good to treat them as actual human beings and get them a psychologist to help them deal with their psychological disorder. The psychologist could help them learn ways for them to deal with their disorder and their urges so that they did not act on them, and also ways to still live a happy life despite the obvious issues that there are in respect to their sexual orientation. Sort of like, something similar to the type of psychological treatment one would receive if they had their penis cut off due to some sort of cancer in that area, where a psychologist can help them learn how to cope with never being able to have sex for the rest of their life, but still be happy, or at least, not so depressed as to commit suicide, etc. A pedophile would likely need similar psychological counseling to cope with not being able to really have any sexual activity for the remainder of their life, and still live a fulfilling, or at least non-terrible life despite it.

I've always found pedophilia to be one of the most interesting subjects in current western society, since it seems to be the ultimate taboo, out of any topic in existence. In our culture, there is not really anything that is considered wronger/sicker than for a pre-pubescent child to be considered sexually attractive by an adult. It is considered the ultimate most fucked up thing. And as a result, the vast majority of the population tends to not even really be willing to think about the issue in any rational way whatsoever, in terms of the actual psychological disorder aspect of it, and to simply just view it as something very bad/gross which should not be thought about or analyzed rationally and should just be avoided discussing and/or discussed in strictly an angry-emotional sense, and nothing more. Obviously in a modern, rational, intelligent society, however, it would be important to figure out how to treat them and their disorder for what it is (a psychological disorder), just like the hundreds of other serious psychological disorders that exist and pose serious risks/problems too that aren't considered as taboo in our current culture, despite being even more dangerous/debilitating in many cases. Once it is viewed more in this context by society, the treatment for it will improve, and the people who have the disorder will feel less shunned/hated for having a disorder that they did not choose to have, and will most likely behave better on average than they currently do, due to not having to keep such a secretive lifestyle which ironically is most likely much more of a high-risk lifestyle in terms of them acting on their orientation and molesting children than if they were able to live a less shunned/isolated/secretive lifestyle if they were able to be more open about their disorder if society learned not to shun/hate them for the mere disorder itself (not to be confused with the action of child molestation, which is different). Sort of like, we are currently better able to treat people who suffer from clinical depression than we used to be, not just in terms of the advances in medicines and the field of psychology, but ALSO in some part due to a shift in our culture itself, in that our society is much more accepting/less shunning/not as much of a taboo for people to be able to be open about having clinical depression than, say, 50 years ago (even in regards to this, there is still stigma associated with even just clinical depression even to this day, although not anywhere near as severely as in the past), and that seems to have been one of the contributing factors to the improvements in how effectively we can treat that disorder, for example. So, much in the same way, with the disorder of say, pedophilia, just like any other psychological disorder, like schizophrenia, or borderline personality disorder, or antisocial personality disorder, or what have you, if culture shifted towards stigmatizing the actual disorder itself less, and being more open to not shunning/hating said person's for merely their actual disorder itself, those people would be more likely to feel they were an actual member of their societies/communities/etc, and be more likely to do everything they could in terms of psychological help and psychiatric medicines, and have more support from other people to help them not ever act on the urges caused by their orientation disorder as a result. It would actually drastically lower the number of child molestation cases per year, if current western culture evolved a bit in that regard.

I could care less what these people do..unless it directly impacts myself or my family. Just do not ask me do pretend it is normal behavior, because it is not even if they do get married...lol.

Not really though. Sure maybe a small percentage of pedophiles think that way, but, the vast majority of them actually are fully aware that their sexual orientation is highly abnormal, statistically speaking, from the norm, as well as the fact that if they were to molest a child that it would cause permanent life-changing psychological harm to that child, and possibly ruin the kid's life.

I think there are a lot of pedophiles who DO NOT wish for society to deem child molestation as acceptable behavior at all, and actually want society to continue to deem child molestation as a horrible action which causes immense psychological damage to children, which last with them for the remainder of their lives, and something which should carry an extreme penalty if one commits does it. Instead, I think many of them simply want there to be a distinction between pedophilia and child molestation. They are not one and the same. They probably want people to comprehend that pedophilia is just an involuntary psychological disorder which they did not choose to have, just like any other serious psychological disorder, and to treat it as such: as something which isn't considered "taboo" or "stigmatized" or "evil" or something they should be hated for when they can't help it, so long as they never actually commit any hurtful ACTIONS upon anyone (as in, so long as they don't actually molest or harm any kids). They probably wish they didn't have to keep their disorder a secret, and that they could be open about themselves, and still have friends and be accepted as a member of society, and just go get treatment for their disorder from a psychologist the way someone who has clinical depression, or schizophrenia, etc etc can be open about their disorder without being hated for it, and go seek treatment for it, but still be a member of society, so long as they behave that is.

As for the comparison to homosexuals, there is a major flaw in the comparison:

Simply: homosexuals, unlike pedophiles, are able to have a sex life without harming anyone. (As in, they can simply have consensual sex with other adult homosexuals of their gender). Therefore, there is no need to try to "treat" their homosexuality with psychological treatment and whatnot, since there is no aspect of their life that is pwned by their sexual orientation. They can just live their life, not harm anyone, etc, no big deal.

With pedophiles on the other hand, it is impossible for them to have a sex life without harming anyone, since it is psychologically harmful for young children to be molested and/or fucked. Therefore, they need actual psychological treatment in order to learn how to both: 1) learn how to control their urges so as to never harm any children as a result of their disorder, and 2) learn how to cope with not being able to have a sex life during their lifetime as a result of their sexual disorder.
