Coming from someone that could tell you almost anything about metallica's first five albums, and almost nothing about there last however many. This is definately a must purchase album when it comes out. there are a few extremely good songs, and a few very good songs. Overall I would say they got the picture that most die hards would not buy another crap album. I downloaded it and I will still purchase it when it comes out. One that stands out is "That was just your life", I still haven't really listened to all of them, wow just as I was typing this another song came on "All Nightmare long". Pretty good so far, I just wish James would forget he ever took voice lessons.

Where are the usual places? I can't wait till the release date.

I remember reading an interview last month where what's his vagina was asked if they're surprised that they're still the biggest metal band on the planet and his response was "no we're not surprised. We keep waiting for someone to step up to the plate and it hasn't happened."

Okay first off, yes they're the "biggest metal band" in the sense that they're the most well known. But then again McDonald's is the "biggest hamburger restaurant" in the world. Secondly, if you think Metallica is the best metal band in the world than you be 40+ years old or suck shit out of a Big Gulp cup. Metallica has never been the best metal band, not now, not in the 90's, not in the 80's, never. Old thrash sucks shit. Just because you're screaming and tune your guitars down doesn't mean you're not just ripping off punk which is horrible enough to begin with.

Lol @ thinking Metallica used down tuned guitars on their songs. All of their hits and the most popular songs used standard tuning so i'm not sure where you were going with that.

• Labeling someone "the best band ever" is a matter of opinion, but point #2 kinda reinforces that claim
• Name 3 metal bands who's singer doesn't scream
• Any of the first 5 Metallica albums are arguably some of the best metal albums ever, especially Master of Puppets

All that said, I agree the last album was garbage...and the few before that wouldn't make my top 50 list, and I agree some of the vocals have considerably fallen off. No, they are no longer kings of the metal genre (I would say Lamb of God holds that throne) but I still hold Metallica in hi regard in the metal scene.

Metallica outselling/outgrossing every other metal band means absolutely nothing regarding the quality of music. I mean N Sync sold more albums in one week than any other artist or band. I don't know about you but when I look at the top 10 selling albums of all time I can't find one I even necessarily like, let alone consider to be great. (Sorry fans of the Eagles, Michael Jackson, Alanis Morisette, etc.)

3 metal bands that don't scream? I don't think I said anything about screaming not being metal but okay. Check out Seemless. The singer is Jesse Lynch, formerly of Killswitch Engage. He blew out his voice and had to leave the band so he formed Seemless along with former members of Shadows Fall. I'm pretty sure he's screamed once or twice in two albums.

You could also check out Dragonforce. I know it's a bastardized cousin to metal but it's still metal. Actually in Europe that style of what we consider to sound like out of date 80's metal singing is still popular. Pretty sure Blind Guardian doesn't scream, I could be wrong there and I don't feel like looking it up.

I can't really dispute the rest because it's what you consider to be great metal which we obviously disagree on. But for my money, the 5 greatest metal albums of all-time are:

All That Remains - This Darkened Heart
Into Eternity - Buried in Oblivion
Killswitch Engage - Alive or Just Breathing
Shadows Fall - The Art of Balance
Between the Buried & Me - Colors

I'm sorry but I hate old metal. Slayer, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, wtfever. It just seems silly and idiotic to me. To each their own.

EDIT: N Sync sold more albums than any other band in a week. Not, they sold more albums in one week than any other artist in their entire career.
