I'm on the coast of NC. We aren't going to be hit very hard, but it has been raining all day and the wind is starting to pick up. It's supposed to be like 40 mph winds this evening (60 mph gusts) and "squalls" of rain. Bunch of retards still buying up the jugs of water and milk and bread at wal-mart lol

I thought Boone NC was up in the mountains.

When the storm rolls in you need to go outside and sprinkle salt around the outside of your homes

That always cracks me up when the stores have this massive run on water and bread.
Overpreparing for storms should be one of those entries in Stuff White People Like -
Edited By: Jaybone2315 Oct 27th, 2012 at 08:35 PMMy mom just came home with like 5 cases of water lol. She placed the 5th one down next to me as I was making jokes about taking showers with it all since we have so much, then i opened this thread and saw your reply.Originally Posted by kellykip

So I read it to her. Her reply?
"Keep making jokes, you will be thanking me when you need it. And what? Black people dont prepare? There were just as many black people in there as white people" She then went on a rant about how happy she was that we still have leftover batteries from her Irene pack rack special because all the stores are sold out of them now.
At least she got something right and came home with booze. -
loooolll

If you do it right, the shit doesnt move.
I just battened down my hatches.
Live in between the bay and the ocean. 50 yards from the bay, maybe 300 from the beach. Kids are staying more inland, I will be holding down the fort. Going to be a wild ride. Expect pictures. -
Just hoping I get outta work for this and my flight on Friday is still good to go
-
I'm assuming you don't have a basement if you live that close to the water?

Edited By: snaggs Oct 27th, 2012 at 09:15 PMWas more of joke, the visual image struck me as funny. We should organize an "end of the world OT tourney at your place!" We could invite Slippy and Jaybone and all sorts of people...Originally Posted by Pker4Dummies

LOL that would be awesome to watch. But knowing my mom she went overboard and if a tornado hit the house the only thing left would be the patio furniture secured firmly to the porch railing

We live on the 4th floor, and have a gas stove. We got 2 jugs of water and some cans of soup, and some ice for a cooler in case power is out for a while. Looking forward to two days hunkered down instead of working.

Also, way less panic here than for Irene, I guess cause the city itself escaped the brunt of it. Stores were actually a bit empty today. Could make for an interesting Tuesday morning. -

I've lived in Florida for over 2 decades of my life and I can say that being prepared is the key to being as comfortable as you can until normal utilities and services are restored. Back in 06 when Hurricane Charley missed my house by 7 miles our power was out for 13 days. So, for 13 days we took cold showers, ran our refrigerator and our tv (DirecTV I might add, cable was out for 2 months haha) from a 1000 watt Honda generator for those 13 days. It was so bad here that the National Guard came in and passed out MRE's and had tractor trailer loads of 20 pound bags of ice at a shopping mall. We also ate spaghetti O's warmed on the propane grill quite a few times. I haven't read the whole thread but I did see the post about using bungees on patio furniture and that is creative and will probably work. In Florida most people put their patio furniture in their 1/2 drained swimming pools for safety. And obviously during a storm event of this magnitude you should have plenty of booze, smoke, cigs/cigars, gas and cash. Cash is very important because if electric is out ATM/Debit/Credit Cards don't work. I would also suggest filling up all bath tubs with water. You will be amazed how valuable that water will be if by chance the water company shuts off service for a day or two. My last word of advice would be that if you live within say 100 miles of where the Hurricane is making landfall you should not stay in your home unless it is battened down like a bunker because this storm is not like an atypical storm. It has the potential to be much worse.
My worst memory of Hurricane Charley was that 11 days after the storm the power company came and got our power working. I was stoked, we were going to have hot water, lights, laundry, food cooked on a stove and get back to some sort of normal life and right as the power company drove away BAMMMMM a tree fell on the lines in my neighbors back yard and out went the power for another two days. -
Already cancelled school monday and tuesday in northern Delaware. WOOOOOT 4 day weekend!
