And if you have never heard this show before, do yourself a favor and give it a listen. One of the best concerts ever (for any band) IMO. -
Cornell? One of the great ones, by all accounts.
What was the best show you ever saw? I think mine was Autzen in 1993. Although the first New Speedway was nice in 1991, but then again it was at the Coliseum, so it could only be so good.
Best Jerry show was absolutely Squaw Valley w/ Grisman (JGB the other day). Support acts were great, Bill Graham cried on stage he was so happy -
Someone PM me how to upload an audio onto YouTube and I'll share a pirated audience of that Autzen show that is the best audience tape I've ever heard
-
Yep Cornell. If you don't have it you can download it HERE
Unfortunately I never saw them live, was like 12 when Jerry died. Been to a few Phil and Bobby shows over the years, not quite the same, but still pretty awesome. Also caught a JGB show with Melvin Seals on keys a few years back that was really fun.
Going to have to check out that Squaw Valley show, don't think I've heard it before. You have a link where I can find it online? -

I'll take a look for a link to Squaw. First night JGB, next afternoon Jerry and David w/ Bela on a couple tunes.
Edit*: I guess it's the Slipknot that's really something -
one of my favorite songs

It's kind of funny to watch live shows from the 80's when theyre getting into their 40's and some of them are wearing like polo shirts or just look like your typical 80's dad. In reality they're hippies from hell who have done an insane amount of drugs. But when I see them in their later concerts i feel like I might as well be watching my dad circa 1985 on stage

If your Dad looked like Jerry, he was in sad health. Half the time I thought he was gonna fall over dead right on stage. I mean, I love the man, but he was in a constant battle for his life. I once left on a road trip to see a 3 show run and by the time I got there he was in a coma. Who'd a thunk it?

happy birthday for a dead hippy...cool.

Great version!
For me (and I think a lot of people) it was an acquired taste. Most songs I didn't really like/appreciate that much the first time or two listening to them. But after a few listens they really start to grow on you.
Maybe a little bit more upbeat and funky is your style?

I'm pretty sure you're not the only one.
Q: how many hippies does it take to change a light bulb?
A: One, and 50,000 to follow the dead one around
I remember when I saw Lazy River Road for the first time. That wrenching minor chord told me Jerry was back on smack. Gotta love the guy. Determination
Reason: not So Many Roads -
while looking for that song, I saw this and just watched it.Gives you some idea of the guy himself. I think you can see both a tremendous spark of life and also his impending death. He obviously is having trouble finding words, and slurs quite a bit. The last minute or so talks about the very beginning of his entertaining people with the guitar

Here's Jerry playing some of those blues he was talking about, but after 20 years of bending hard with Jazz and acid rock

Jerry birthday celebration just started streaming live from Bobbys studio. I always forget to tune in when he's broadcasting but I always here they are sick. Figured some people around here might appreciate it.

MOVE ME BRIGHTLY
Jerry Garcia would have turned 70 on Aug. 1, and to mark the occasion, two days after his birthday members of the Grateful Dead family are throwing an online musical party that will be a live free webcast in HD from bandmate Bob Weir's TRI Studios in San Rafael.
http://www.tristudios.com/
edit: here's the lineup
Weir heads a growing lineup of musicians who will perform, including Willie Nelson's son Lukas Nelson, Joe Russo and Jeff Chimenti from Furthur, Mike Gordon of Phish, Paul Simon's son Harper Simon, psychedelic folk musician Jonathan Wilson and Bay Area singer-songwriter Cass McCombs.
Reason: added lineup
