    Judge orders 6-year-old boy to attend traffic-safety class

    A New Mexico judge has ordered a 6-year-old boy who refused to wear his seat belt despite his mother's pleas to attend a traffic-safety class.

    It was the boy's mother who got the ticket in January for failing to restrain her child. "He took off his seat belt, I pulled over again and put it on and he took it off right in front of the cop," the woman said in court this week.

    After hearing othat the boy always took off his seat belt, Los Lunas Judge John "Buddy" Sanchez asked he could help discipline her 6-year-old. Mother and son will be required to attend the seat-belt safety class together.

    It used to be that the mother or father would take care of the discipline.
