I am trying to get health insurance for myself because I am going to start skiing again. I have applied to a couple different companies and have been getting denied because of an old ski accident that I was in. I am fine now and have had no checkups or complications from the accident but I am still getting denied. Does anyone know of some options to use to get health insurance? Also are some companies easier to get accepted for than others? Thanks.

PM Obama

I dont think Obama's healthcare plan helps out people that get denied until 2013. But I hope that I am wrong. I think in 2013 health insurance companies cant deny people anymore.

That starts in 2014 I think. Surprised a health insurance company would care about a old skiing accident.

Go to Georgia's department of insurance website contact them regarding two things - 1) List of all companies licensed to sell health insurance in Georgia and 2) Ask about any guaranteed coverage available in Georgia. Most states have guaranteed coverage available for those individuals who are not insurable. -
It is just really hard to get health insurance right now from ANYONE. I highly doubt it has anything to do with your history. Several of my buds are insurance agents and they are telling me that their Health Insurance carriers are dropping like flies, and the ones that they have are denying people like crazy. It is just not a good time for Health insurance.

This just can't be correct.

Obama said his bill would lower premiums and all of the OT Libs said that Obamacare was gonna be awesome for private insurers.
Might be time for the Government to step in and fix this problem.....Too soon? -

Yeah, I agree. We should have just went with Single-payer to begin with. Cut the useless insurance companies out of the equation.

You should be able to enroll in a high-risk pool.

Insurers can deny coverage for pre-existing conditions for adults until Jan. 1, 2014.
The new reform law does create a temporary backup plan for those uninsured who have health problems.
This Plan B is a short-term, national high-risk insurance pool. US citizens and legal immigrants who have preexisting conditions and have been uninsured for at least six months will be eligible to enroll in this pool and receive subsidies to help them afford the premiums.
Under the law, the premiums for this pool will be the same as would be charged for a standard population of people with varying risks. Maximum out-of-pocket cost sharing for enrollees will be $5,950 for individuals and $11,900 for families, per year.
This risk pool is supposed to be up and running within 90 days (from last February, so now) and then fade into the sunset on Jan. 1, 2014.
