It's the most segregated city in america (maybe the world). The south side of chicago is something absurd like 90%+ black, the north almost all white, and the west almost all hispanic.

I lived there for about 9 months last year in the north obv with my fellow bretheren and the word was you don't go west of Western rd and don't go to white sox games. It's a huge city and this was never a problem for me, there aint dick to do that far west and cubs games > sox games. I lived in Lincoln Park and to my knowledge, not a single crime happened there in my 9 months. I lived with my brother and we never even locked our doors, not once. Place was sweet.

my friend that lives in chicago says the same thing. he lives over near wrigley field i think and he says its perfectly safe. he also says that once you cross into the black part of town that youll wish you didnt

i thought segregation was a purely southern phenomenon

I'm sorry but if I had $0 to my name and children under 10 years old I would literally put them on my back and walk somewhere less violent, and I feel every single parent should feel the same.

Well bad parenting is gonna happen. A 7 yr old kid shouldnt be on the street at almost midnight selling candy but they shouldn't have to die for it. Saying people should just pack up and leave the ghetto is such a short-sighted, unrealistic solution.

the easy way to reduce gun crime is to make any felony committed with a gun an automatic life w/o parole sentence. It wouldnt eliminate all gun crime, but im sure it would make a lot of people think before they act.

"White" Flight (really, white + any POC who can GTFO) is one of those Individually Rational, Collectively Insane phenomena. Once the best minds and hard workers high-tail it, who's left to run small businesses and hire locals, to be skilled labor, to run for city council? No one, and neighborhoods fall apart. Then, eventually, poverty goes up, crime goes up, cops start cracking skulls, property values plummet, then the kids of the parents who fled come back to piss off kellykip. Unfortunately, there may not be much of a clear solution; you can't *make* people live in progressively less safe neighborhoods.

That statement is a little paradoxical. Alot of criminals don't actually become criminals until after they possess guns. I understand there'll always be a black market but if you reduce the amount of guns going around through government buy back schemes and/or stricter control laws, it also makes it alot tougher for crims to get their hands on them. Wouldn't you feel safer living in a society where 5% of the population owns guns as opposed to 45%?
I get Im not going to win this argument considering many of you are pro-gun, pro 2nd amendment but I just find it somewhat disconcerting that the only reason this girl made the national news was because of her name, otherwise she'd be just another statistic.

NZ has strict gun laws, our baddies rob corner shops with machetes, machete>gun to be attacked with! FUCK GUNS!

Spewtard seems to imply that get rid of guns and we have no more crime problems, that's way more ludicrous than poumi pointing out that people do robberies with machetes. btw we already have gun control in the US. The reason I don't have guns is because the licensing is such a pain in the ass.

A man armed with a knife entered Justice Coins in New Port Richey, Fla. and stabbed owner Wayne Justice while attempting to rob the store. Despite his wounds, Justice was able to retrieve a firearm and shoot the attacker. The criminal fled, but collapsed just outside the store and later died after being taken to a local hospital.
Pasco County Sheriff’s Office officials made clear that they do not expect Justice to face charges and indicated that the store owner is a Right-to-Carry permit holder. Law enforcement officials also noted that the deceased robber had been arrested for robbery in 2007, was on felony probation and had a warrant out for his arrest at the time of his death.
