TUGreenwave made this thread for me. He was trying to help me fix it for like 3 hours last night, nothing worked. When I got home, the internet was super slow. I ran out for like a half hour, and when I got back and turned the laptop back on (everything goes to sleep mode after 20 min) I was able to get on AIM and SKYPE but when I tried opening firefox, IE, AND chrome none of them would work. At first all the other comps here were able to get online, but after a few hours they also had the same problem. I literally tried everything and then came to the conclusion that I need a new router b/c it's pretty old and I usually have to unplug/replug it once a week at minimum so it made sense that it was dying. I woke up today, and it's now working again. WTF?!?! Anyone have any insight as to wtf happened last night? Could my modem be on the fritz of dying?

also, when I have a power outage (even if it is too short to notice) my router and/or modem has to be reset/rebooted.
it's from a commercial. -
how did you get TUG to do your bidding for you?

TU is a friend and was willing to try to help me, and then he got frustrated and wanted to figure out the answer to satisfy his curiousity. My power hasn't gone out recently, and it was after stores were closed and I think I gave my LAN cable to my brother when he needed it and couldn't find another one. I was going to buy one today and probably still will just in case I run into something like this again. I knew I could get on the internet if I connected the laptop to the cable modem (which I knew wasn't the problem) but besides that I literally tried everything. I reset everything like 10x, turned on and off my fire wall/virus protection numerous times, and TU gave me a bunch of other suggestions (like prompts to put into cmd. Just nothing worked. It was ironic though, this was the first time probably ever that I sat down to start a research paper over a week before it's due (I usually wait until a day or 2 before the due date to start) and I couldn't do any research! It's a 14 page paper too, sigh. That's why I'm gonna buy the cable as a back up so that I don't get screwed when I spend my weekend doing super fun things like research and writing!

TUGreenwave is super awesome and I feel horrible. He was determined to figure out what was wrong and after 3 hours I gave up cuz it was after midnight and I had to study so he had to give up without solving the problem. Sorry :(
Oh, and I never watch commercials that's prob why I had no idea what that guinea pig thing meant! DVR ftw!
