So while buzzed I told my daughter that if she got all A's she would get 250$. Well she said OK and never spoke another word of it. But, she secrectly was tryin her butt off to impress the old man and pulled 4-A's and a B+. Obv she was disappointed but shes a trooper and never whined a bit.
What should I give her? -
give her a hundred now and offer the balance if she pulls all A's on the next term?
-
$200
-
$200, $50 per A
Or a pat on the head and good try honey, maybe next time -

And $183.
Reason: It's Christmas. -
i would say no dollars for her..
you cant just accept mediocrity...
if she thinks fail is acceptable now it will only go down hill from her

meh, i would give her the $250. Maybe I'm just soft, but she obviously tried her best for the straight A's, so she deserves it imo

thats basically what i was thinking - its not a reward for an A but a reward for completing a goal. Keeping $150 on the table for next semester keeps her motivated but also rewards her for hard work thus far.

some parental advice would go a long way. tell her "when you bribe the teachers, make sure Math gets the biggest chunk of the total. you know what baby girl? here, take this. it's a .44 magnum.the most powerful handgun in the world. you look at mr. pocket protector and say " do you feel lucky punk?" and collect your cheese"

Reason: lol and as an aside: i got $3 for every A to spend on books. i was an straight A student until i dropped out after 9th grade -
Claim you were under the influence of alcohol and the verbal contract is null and void.

How old is she?

usually I like your posts, but she was probably literally one or two multiple choice answers away from straight A's. So, that's pretty ridiculous imo.

How so?

Some kids get straight A's with no incentive at all. Or rather they're berated for mediocrity for not achieving them.
Giving cash for a failed goal is soft. It's not a real representation of the world. You succeed or fail, there is no in-between. -
Edited By: FenwayKing Dec 26th, 2010 at 12:06 AMBut she didn't get straight A's. Like BGX said, give her something else, I dunno take her out for ice cream or something for working hard this semester (iirc, kidrockin's daughter is <12 years old), but there's no way I would give her a fraction of the $250.Originally Posted by jaykell15

You can't see failure (obv a B+ isn't a failure literally, but it wasn't a success for her goal) as success. If you do that, you let yourself settle for second-best and mediocrity for your whole life. You should see failure as a teaching tool, something that will make you work even harder the next time out. It's not a success or "completing" her goal just because she was close. It was a great effort and something that you should be happy about, but it's something that you use as motivation to do even better and work even harder next time because you didn't achieve your goal. Until you actually succeed in your goal, why should you reap the benefits of it? -
if she is in fact less than 12, I wouldn't give her money. High school/college, sure, but for the most part A's in grade school are easy with any effort at all

So what happens after he gives her nothing? Maybe she gets upset and just says the hell with it and goes back to previous form.
The original purpose was to give her an incentive to improve her grades, and that's what happened. A partial compensation is definitely called for - but not a nearly full compensation. So she gets "something" and continues to try hard next semester.
I think you need to set up a schedule for this:
Straight A's - $250
Any B's - reduced in half (4 A's and 1 B - $125, 3 A's and 2 B's - $62.50, etc.).
Any C's - $0 -
I change my answer to this, that's pretty solid

no money but another reward is the correct answer.
