So I'm moving to philly soon and I'm in the process of setting up my room/poker office and a definite must is some dope speakers for crucial tunes and movies/ sports. I'm looking for a nice surround sound system that could be toggled between my computer and tv (which will be in the same room). I'm not sure if if this is 'lol' low but I'm thinking my budget is about 1k right now. Any ideas? Have people set up such systems?

Bose
-
Am I going to be able to afford that, yo? I guess I'll check out the bose website.
-
I have a little bose system that goes between my comp mostly, but sometimes w/ teh idiot box.. it was only like 300, so you could obviously get something better, but I'm not sure how much better it can get.. bose = top top.. then again, I have no idea wtf I'm rly talking about here

The CineMate from Bose works for both cases, but it's not a true surround.
Also, Bose can be priced a little high just because of the name.
Check out Acoustimass systems if you're looking for a surround sound/computer system. -
Ok heres a better response for you:
Receiver:

As far as wires go I would go with a monster wire and then add a blu ray to your main set up through your receiver. You can also set up yuour receiver in the living room for your main tv with that main set of speakers which imo are so good ive had them for a while and then you can buy 2 more bookshelf speakers and a small sub for your computer and run it all off of the receiver i posted up there and have a 2 zone system running in your living room and computer room. Go into best buy and talk to a magnolia rep and show them that stuff tell them you want this and it all set up and it should be everything you ever wanted and more. GL let me know how it works out for you that system is pretty much exactly what I have. -
Super cheap solution with high quality performance = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121120
$300 bucks, and BAM hookup your TV (i assume you have digital cable or satallite through digital coax or optical and vise versa for the computer)
Don't goto bestbuy don't buy their over priced same performance monster cables, I mean no offense bawsten but you might as well goto swoopo.com and get a good deal :P -
Altec Lansing.

this stuff looks dope dudes, thanks for the replies. time for investigations.

That reminds me. I used fpps to get an HD player (I know, fml) and I bought a $100 monster cable at best buy a long time ago, so if possible I'd love to put that to use.

logitech z-5500

this system sounds perfect and gets louder than you can handle. i own one and would never consider anything else for my home theater/computer unless i want to invest lots o cash. you will not be disappointed.
also if youre looking for the best you might want to dump an asus zonar sound card in your computer. -
Yeah I run the Z5500's myself, I use to work for a company owned by best buy (pretty much the exact same thing but version canada) and I know a few of the home theater guys were buying these for their movie setup because of price point value, obviously you will get better quality going into the 5k price range for some nice BOSE lifestyles otherwise there is no point spending more money unless you are going into that range so you might as well get these.

I assume the cable you bought was an HDMI cable which is used for HDDVD or Blu-Ray or up converting DVD players which won't work on these, you will need to go buy a Digital Coax and a Optical cable if you want to hook up 2 sources (computer & tv) Just make sure your computer and tv have either of those outputs. And just go and grab the cheapest cable you can find or grab one off the new egg site as well and you will get a killer setup for under 400 bucks :)
