  1. So my friend and our are leaving the bank when we get flagged down by a guy in a mini van, who we just assumed was going to ask about my friends car ( he just bought a 350z all decked out w/ decals etc) He then says something about home theater systems and ironic enough we just went and returned one that wasnt compatible w/ the tv. So were like ok and check em out. The guys got probably 5-6 of these things, and of course they look sick. The guy has a magazine w/ the retail on these things like 2k-3k.. He has this story about being a delivery guy and having an extra then his delivery sheet says..I mean this things legit addresses/names/phone numbers..Obviously this was well thought out. Me being me obv thought scam and or these were stolen but with a magazine and this fed ex sheet how could it be. He starts making offers and my friend obv begins to bargin..He only has 300 in cash with him and isnt willing to spend more..He gets one of the smaller ones for 300 and off we go thinking he just got a steal and going to resell this for more. We get home and the 1st thing that comes up when we search for these is this.. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/ele/544496825.html...hes on life tilt right now..i loled..

    cliff notes

  2. this has been around for yeeeears..google "van + home stereo" or something similar and you'll get thousands of hits
  3. I swear I get asked if I want to buy home theater equipment once a month in
any given parking lot or gas station. Never give them the time of day.
  4. Wow, thanks for the warning. I wouldve defintely bought things from a random guy from the back of a van and expected it to be legit.

  5. white van speakers scamming people successfully for over 10 years ;)

  7. I get them all the time. When they ask if I want a home theater system I usually get them excited by saying "Yeah I do. Do you take cash?" Then I ask them If they would follow me to an ATM.
  8. Some guy tried this one me at a gas station, same sales pitch actually, and I told him I know about the scam he tried to justify it I told him to fuck off and left. Next day I am coming out of Chipotle and the same fucking guy tries it again on me. Trust me its not that well thought out. It is hilarious watching people fall for it though. Thanks a lot.
  9. Amazing that this scam still works.
  10. thats a good idea lefty..get them all excited, say something like "wow a 3k stereo, well my ATM will allow me to withdraw 800...you wanna follow me to it...then drive them to the police station or something
  11. Yeah the moneys not as big of deal as the feeling of getting ripped off.. He called the cops but theres nothing they can really do but issue citations they of course already know about this.

  12. Yeah they will folow you anywhere. Then just get on the highway and confuse the shit out of them.
  13. LOLZ welcome to 1978.

best speaker story of my life: i bought a set of speakers from two guys once after checking them out. one of the speakers needed a better weld on a wire and thats why it was being moved out. they were 750 each retail and they were driving the stores actual van so i got them both for $200 total. they have been running since 1991 now but are in my retail store in breckenridge that i sold.

*the good part: i actually parlayed those speakers and stereo into stock in my company. I told the accountant they were worth 1k each plus the stereo so i never paid a single dollar for any of my companys stock and turned that into a LARGE buyout 5 years later. My cousin put up all the real cash while i ran it and made it successful. Thanks for the buyout guys! At least they are still working! more than a 500 roi.
  14. a few years ago, i was driving my old mans mustang around and i got flagged down by this old dude by a van, i was kinda hoping to get raped so i pulled over, dude starts ranting about these sweat speakers and shit that he's got, they go for 4K+, shows me the magazine and all that jazz, he wanted like 1K, but he said he'd take 800

i immediatly figure theyre garbage, or stolen, i'm hoping for the latter, i let him know that its not my car, and i'm a broke bitch, but i start bargaining him down... telling him that if he's flagging poeple down to sell them, he obv needs to get rid of them quick, i talk him down to 400, he's all pissed but he says whatever, i get him to follow me home, where my money is, like 4 miles away

we get there, i tell him to wait outside, i go in, make him wait down the alley from my house for like 10 minutes, i finallly walk out with 120 dollars, tell him thats all i have, he starts getting into his van, drives a few feet down the alley, slams on the brakes, and sells me the speakers for 120 bills.

theyre nice as shit, built in 400 wat amp great sound quality... i talked to my buddy a few weeks later who said he bought the same shit i bought for 600, I guess its not always a scam, but you just gotta bull shit your way into getting a deal
  15. I know a guy that sells these with the exact same "pitch" when he needs extra cash.
He makes a shit load of money selling them, but was robbed once. lol
  16. If there is anything wrong with buying things from a Contravan, I don't wanna be right.
  17. ^^ lmao burro

I wont buy anything not name brand. Wtf is DiVinci?!?!
  18. DaVinci is probably the nicest and most expensive amplifier ever produced. DaVinci FTW!

  19. 3 years ago i was also scammed by these guys. somehow i never heard of this scam before then but now it seems like everyone knows about it
