  1. Im not even sure what happened. TKO for Dawson, when Hopkins swung and missed and ended up on top of Dawsons back and gets half body slammed and blows a shoulder out. Lame. Dawson talking trash in B Hops face after.

Not even sure why I made a thread for this. Boxing gonna boxing

  6. feel sorry for the people who bought this PPV
  7. The final nail in the Boxing's coffin will be the Free UFC card on Fox (Velasquez vs. Dos Santos).

    Too much bullshit in boxing.

HATE Hopkins. I respect what he's done in the sport but I do not like him as a boxer. He is a dirty fighter which people always give cute names like "old school." He did not end up on Chad's back, he pushes fighter's heads down all the time when he gets in close. Chad was already getting frustrated, if you saw about a minute before he told the ref he's pushing me down. I'm glad Chad was not willing to let Bhop get away with it. And as Max Kellerman said, Hopkins fakes injuries when he needs time, watch Hopkins-Jones II
  9. Die.

  10. Hopkins is an old man and never wanted this fight. Bad Chad Dawson is a beast and probably would have knocked Hops out in a later round.
  11. Another win for MMA.

I've given up all hope on boxing and decided that even if Mayweather and Pac fought, it would probably end in some retarded fashion, and not be worth my $$
  12. This was PPV? How the hell do they sell this fight? Both are not exactly entertaining. This had boring written all over it

I watched the fights in UK last night and got 2 brilliant fights. The Cleverley v Bellew world title fight was fantastic. No chance i was staying up to watch the Hopkins v Dawson fight

you say old man like it's a bad thing

i didn't see the fight last night and just caught the ticker under the sports reporters talking about this i hope to find some video online later or see it on sportscenter to check it out

post above talking about mma going to kill boxing bc of the free card is right that mma has a huge advantage; there is someone in charge. the multiple boxing associations, with their combined corruption and ineptitude, have killed the sport when combined with the influence of promoters like don king and talented boxers dodging each other
  14. It's obvious that Dawson tackled Hopkins to the ground. I'd be really surprised if the athletic commission didn't change the result to a no-contest. I don't see how the title can change hands because Dawson executed a single-leg take down and hopkins landed awkwardly enough to dislocate his shoulder.

  15. ty big john for posting the video

pretty terrible work by the ring-side doctor in failing to actually check him out for as long as he did obv a separated shoulder wasn't life threatening but still move your butt in and check the man out doc

    stupid move by dawson

hopkins looked out of sorts before this, off-balance a lot

seemed like he just threw Hopkins down after lifting his leg to throw hopkins off balance

agree that decision will be changed but at least now there will be some buzz for a rematch between hopkins and a dude i thought hosted family feud until this morning

fyi the replays start around the 8:00 mark
  16. Pretty absurd decision by the ref. I'm sure if he had the benefit of replay he would have come off that ruling.

De la Hoya already planning to file a protest to the commission by week's end.

  17. I think that's what I find most surprising. The ref clearly evaluated the situation correctly. You can hear him explaining the rationale for his decision several times during the video clip I posted. I don't know enough about the minutiae in the rules of boxing to know if he is simply hamstrung by how he can categorize what happened. If he rules it a foul, does he have to take point(s) from Dawson should Hopkins be able to continue?

It seems to me that once he knew Hopkins couldn't continue, he should have called Dawson's action a foul so that it could be a no-contest. I'll be curious to see more analysis of how the rules played a part in this.
  18. Watching B-Hop is like watching grass grow, paint dry, water boil dot dot dot
  19. It will be changed to a no contest. Still a bad night for boxing, specially following the Mayweather shit storm

  20. hopkins jumped on him and he shrugged him off? whats the problem?
  21. he picked up hopkins' leg and then threw him down

  22. when was the last time a Boxing PPV even was actually worth the money?

that was such a pussy fall. Hop wouldnt even last in a womens rolller derby league.

  23. I can't remember the last time i bought a ppv and was happy about it

I haven't paid for one in at least ten years and can't say that i am sad about knowing what happens before i eventually get to see the fight
  24. Fuck all wrong with Hopkins. Didnt fancy it. Why was he climbing on Dawson anyway?

Should be ruled a no contest. No foul by Dawson but fight didnt end from a punch either

Doesnt matter. Fucking farce all over

Well since you haven't bought one in ten years it's pretty reasonable to expect that you can't remember the last time you were happy with a boxing PPV.

Agreed. I think B Hop was looking for a way out. I promised myself that I would never pay for another Hopkins fight after watching him fight a super dirty fight against Winky Wright.

+1. Easily my least favorite big name fighter.

I've been thinking about this a lot (cause I've bought a few boxing PPV's in the last 10 years) and I would have to agree. It's never worth what you pay for the "big" fights. On top of that, and I know it's a dead horse, but MMA is so superior. There's always something in an MMA PPV that makes it worth it, even it the ME doesn't shape up (which is also rare).

I think the next time I get a boxing PPV will be Mayweather/Pacquiao.

Also, +1 on watching boxing after the fact. No reason not to wait for HBO to rerun it 7 days later.
  27. Hopkins was faking it, he got dominated 1st round and thought he could get out of the fight with a no contest.
  28. i really doubt hopkins 'needed time' at the end of the 2nd round. this probably should be a no contest and theres likely no way hopkins was faking, even though the fall seemed harmless and hopkins fell down like it was his first time walking. its not like ufc fights are without controversy. bad stoppages, bad judging, possible greasing, chael sonnen's bacne, the list goes on and on
