WTF is this baseball or something? I can't remember this much activity ever, and it's pretty awesome imo. The NFL draft is already the shit, but Free Agency has always been kinda uneventfull, this year being the obv exception. I hope this is the new trend in the league, I need year round football news and information.
-
Go Browns! What an amazing offseason they have had, by far the best in the NFL.
-
lolll i had something ready about browns fans being the most dillusional in the nfl but i cant back that up without offending philly, vikings, lions, and green bay homers.
-
yeah, what a blockbuster deal that was with dereck anderson. browns will probably win the AFC championship with that move
-
The Jets are my long-shot for having had a great off-season, a lot of that depends on Kris Jenkins but if he can keep his weight down, stay healthy, and play the way he is capable of playing he is a great fit for that defensive scheme, too bad they let Vilma Go because he would have benefited greatly from all the guards and fullbacks that Jenkins takes on.
I love the Falcons offseason so far, they're not in a place to make a couple moves and be a playoff caliber team. They need to rebuild for a couple years, then make a splash in free agency and fill a couple holes with some great players. Turner and Coleman are young and inexpensive, Turner is very good, hopefully Coleman will be too, at least his presence allows Jimmy Williams to move back to CB. I hope they re-sign Rod Coleman to a cap-friendly deal, he is a force when healthy. We'll know in a year or so if the front office is really commited to re-building. I'd love to see Jake Long available at the #3 spot, but that's a long-shot for sure. It will be very interesting to see who is available and who gets picked at #3 for Falcons fans. Also D'Angelo Hall might get traded, IDK how I feel about this, he's a very good player but not an elite coverage CB, and he has personality issues. I honestly think Jimmy Williams is more talented but way more of a headcase risk, and that's saying a lot considering it's D-Hall.
All in all it's been a pretty exciting off-season for me, there's still a lot of quality free agents and also the possibility of Larry Fitzgerald and Marion Barber getting traded. I love the NFL! -
Ty Jets for giving us Vilma for a 4th rounder. Hopefully he stays healthy :/
-
the jets are a fuckin joke, $42 million for Calvin Pace, hahahaahahahahahaa
-
regarding your love for the falcons' offseason:
not sure about turner. RB's that go from one team to another don't always perform as well as expected, especially career backups. I hope Turner is good, but sometimes it's the line that makes a RB look good. The falcons line sucks.
Demarrio Williams is now a chief. That is a loss.
But hey, they signed Chris Redman...
they better try to get the OL from umich in the draft. try to get the qb from delaware in the 2nd. -
Yeah Pace is a potential uber-bust, but Jenkins is a potential steal and a half. I also liked how much they improved the O-line. I hate them letting Vilma go, and I think it's half-retarded that they have let a couple very good players go because they don't fit Mangini's 3-4 scheme (uhhh, you have Dewayne Robertson, Jonathan Vilma, maybe you should make a new scheme that cater's to your outstanding players?), but at least they found a guy that could be a perfect fit, even if he's a huge injury risk making a lot of guaranteed money.
-
I doubt they can get Jake Long at #3, that's my ideal pick but a huge longshot. I don't really give a shit if they get a QB, and I don't give a shit at all if they are competitive this year, what I love about the offseason if that they are not taking on stupid contracts trying to win it all (or have a winning record in the Falcons case). They are signing affordalbe younger players, and let the more expensive veterans go.
edit:
Also, Turner isn't exactly a career backup in the true sense of the phrase. He's a guy that would have taken more than half the RB's in the NFL's job, he just so happened to be backing up the best RB in the NFL. -
Raiders' offseason have sucked hardcore so far. They overpay for a solid versatile DT, and an average safety with pass deficiencies. Plus they lose their best receiver. WTF, who the hell is running the raiders franchise, Al Davis? godamn old shit need to die immed.
Anyways, I was shocked at how aggressive Browns have been. Their DT acquisitions will definitely clog their key weakness: stopping the run. But I dont understand their signing of Stallworth. Not a necessity as Edwards is a great deep threat, and winslow, jurvicius do a capable job of taking the shorter passes. I thought they could have gotten a better deal by signing a cheaper possesion receiver. -
they overpaid turner. he hasnt proven anything yet...there is a ton of hype around him but the falcons have ZERO o-line, no QB and they dont really have great WRs eithere. the falcons have almost zero going for them. this is a deep draft and they need to make some trades to get more early 2nd and 3rd rd picks.
if i were the falcons i wouldve:
held onto dunn.
got long with my 1st pick
got flacco my 2nd pick
got another 2nd pick (via trade) and grab james hardy (6'5" WR that ran the fastest 40YD dash)
3rd round i would say f*ck it and get colt brennan.
i would then play flacco and brennan over the next year or two and whatever player was better i would keep. meanwhile your team is going to be having bad seasons, accept it and grab a few more top draft picks in the next 2 years/make some moves in the offseason wants you get a solid QB.
sounds dumb, but i think the falcons have WAAAYYYY to much work to even think about being a playoff team by next year. they might as well take advantage of their situation and draft/trade for a super young team over the next 3 years. 4 years from now they will be a top caliber team and will be super young/be around for years to come.
there just isnt a quick fix for the falcons.
the turner trade was dumb as hell, considering they have turner waaaayyy too much money.
if they draft matt ryan they might as well just give up all together. i am not quite sure what is with the falcons/texans/lions but they cant draft worth chit. -
raiders have been brutal. who is jim kelly? lol
-
They signed Turner, Long probably won't be available at the #3 spot, I already mentioned that I didn't think the Falcons could be competitive for a couple years and need to commit to rebuilding, and I doubt Flacco will be available for the Falcons 2nd round pick but I would love to get him there, pretty much everyone I know is projecting him to go to there though.
-
I'll agree with that Warpedworld, the Raiders need a deep threat now, and the replacement level is nowhere close to Jerry Porter. They should have drafted a DT and kept Porter rather than the opposite, assuming they could have gotten him to sign. Appearantly he was pretty unhappy in Oakland.
-
The Jets are spending sooooooo much money. I'll be honest, I don't even know wtf Calvin Pace is.
That being said, adding Faneca and Woody (lol @ his last name) give them one of the best offensive lines in all of football.
Kris Jenkins, if motivated and healthy, will be the perfect NT for the 3-4.
At least they're being aggressive, which is a nice change from the past. Too bad they still don't have a QB to throw the ball. -
Losing Porter was inevitable.. But they also lost an up and coming pass rusher in Chris Clemons who had a stellar rookie year playing part time.
I agree with them drafting a DT, I was rooting for Dorsey to fall to them at #4 altho that was a longshot. Tommie Kelly isn't a bad player but definitely not worth the contract they gave him. GG raiders for the next few years or at least til Al Davis goes away.
*sighs* It hurts to be a Raiders fan. -
I think Pace would be a solid fit as an outside LB in a 3-4 scheme, he does a decent job of rushing the passer. I'm not too sure of his other abilities such as stopping the run, pass coverage. I do think it was a solid signing, perhaps overpaid a little.
Kris Jenkins was a bad trade considering Jenkins' injury history and his perchant for taking plays off and not living up to his potential after that one great year early in his career.
And you're right, they won't do much without a QB. I wonder if they will draft McFadden if he falls to them. -
Jarl,
Stop deceiving everyone and reveal your true identity, Matt Millen. Flacco & Brennan both in rounds 2/3? Retarded. -
Jenkins is high risk high reward, he's getting a lot of guaranteed money and has a very troubling history of injuries. He's also the perfect fit for NY's 3-4 scheme when healthy.
Mcfadden could easily go to NY now that the Falcons have signed Turner. That's the reson I love that signing so much for the Falcons, the Norwood/Turner combo should be just fine. -
c. johnson to the bears?? they need a reciever but im not sure how thrilled chad would be with having either sexy rexy/orton throwing him the ball
