he's batting .252
what a god damn joke
the nl sends 4 1st basemen to the all star game...hilarious!
so now i suppose Pujols plays maybe 4 innings to get the other guys in there.
he needs to play all nine innings if the nl wants to win.
but no, lets give ryan "i cant even hit my weight" howard some pt

1. Charlie Manuel is coaching the NL team.
2. Howard is from St. Louis.
3. MLB needs him to participate in the Home Run Derby.
Quit being a homer - no one will play 9 fucking innings. no matter how much bud selig wants the all star game to mean something, it never will. -
ban op for this stupid thread and the mcnair comment

it's not. and the all star game should not decide this anyway. it's a temporary fix. you think anyone who is repping the nationals, pirates, or the indians gives a fuck which team has the homefield advantage in the world series??
MLB has failed miserably with their attempt to come up with a meaningful all star game. -
Most players have some pride.

we'd all like to think so. but you could also argue that they show up to the ballpark much like many of us show up to the office. and some days you just don't give a fuck.

If the game really did matter, the managers wouldnt have so much pressure on them to play everyone.
Also, prideful or not, there will be no pittsburgh pirates in the world series this year. I also find it hard to believe that the pirates players would be rooting for the Cubs in the world series this year just bc they're both in the NL.
Also, the Cubs will be absent from the WS this year as well. -
Im saying the way its set up now no matter who is playing and how often the game has significant implications, hence why it is meaningful. Obviously I think this is fucking stupid but it still doesnt take away from the fact that the game is important.

what in the fuck are you even rambling about here?

and every team has at least 1 representative, so why are you saying there will be no Pirates? Freddy Sanchez is an all star. -
wtf?
all-star voting sucks?
no way! -
Anyone who thinks homefield doesn't matter in the World Series is retarded.
-
and to the OP, while Howard was a poor choice and is having a bad season, his batting average has nothing to do with it - batting average is a useless stat - his season sucks cuz his OPS is .845... he doesn't get paid to hit for average
-
you are right, since the Phillies won last year without homefield advantage, it is meaningless like TheDude says...
nice sample size.
jeezuz -
wrong thread.... how did Josh Hamilton make the all -star game? Hes starting CF? WTF Batting .240, 6HR , 24RBI's.... amazing
-
Its not like it was ever better before.

Wasnt home field advantage in the WS alternated each year before it was determined at the all-star game?
So basically... home field advantage in baseball has always been a joke. Why not make the biggest joke of a game during the season determine it. Sounds about right... -
O wow, take it easy. I never said it was meaningless. Pretty sure all I was implying was that it was almost a non-factor to the team last year according to every piece of coverage that asked a member of the team about how they felt about not having it.

do you have a point? again, nice sample size.

homefield advantage is hugely important, who cares what happens in one series? -
The way homefield is determined is ridiculous but it does matter imo. MLB needs to fix the rules and it wouldn't be as big of a deal. If they instituded a DH in the NL then homefield would matter less and if they just went by best overall record of the match-up would probably be ideal.
-
in both 04 and 07 Sox had homefield advantage and in both series got up 2-0. Makes Game 3 essentially a must win for the home team.
Homefield advantage is vastly underrated in baseball. Just look at the Sox record at home over the last 5-6 years. -
yes, in baseball a 10% edge is virtually nothing. lol
