In the playoffs and during other games teams sell standing room only tickets, which don't count towards the total attendance, therefore are counted in addition to the game being a sell out.

They have this is most cities in the playoffs, I watched a Red Wings game once from Standing Only section. -
I watched them raise their 2001/02 Cup Banner from Standing Room.. 30 bucks. It was frickin awesome to be there. Then they went out and lost to your Canadiens.
