  5. How many hits would the best athletes in OT get off Jamie Moyer in 100 AB (assuming average MLB fielders)?

I'd say the best OT hitters would still only get 15-20 hits off him in 100 AB.

That's a great brag; too bad it's overshadowed by one of the sickest anti brags in the history of the Internet.

lol I was gonna bring this up. I think when i did this with you guys I was lucky to hit around 65. And I basically blew my arm out doing it.

bar were usually at least 15 beers deep by then
  13. OP, in real life

  14. I can do a pretty mean long toss.

    Speaking of tossing...where's nasty been?

The most effective approach to creating a person who throws hard is to start doing long toss with them beginning at about the age of 5 and stretch the distance out over time. I have one kid who I coach who has been clocked at about 88 (absolute max) he cruises in games around 81-82 and thats all his dad ever did with him growing up, only recently did he start lifting weights just for stamina.

Tons and tons of it comes from very quick hips...quick clearing hips and a long stride will definitely outweigh height every day of the week. Look at Billy Wagner for quick hips.

I can't throw a ball worth a shit any more...tore my labrum my sophomore year in college. I got clocked at 88 a few times my freshman year in college...normally sat at 85ish. I know the summer before I came to college I was easily throwing the hardest of my life. We were playing traveling baseball tourneys every weekend, and since I was playing bball at the same time, I wasn't always there. So instead of having me be a starter, they converted me to closer for the summer...I had a blast. I'd have such an adrenaline rush when coming into the game that I know I was throwing harder than I ever have before. I would bet a lot of money that I was breaking 90 in our last summer tourney in Florida to end the summer...it was some World Series, and I closed out the championship game...it was like 98 degrees and humid as hell; my arm was SUPER loose, and I had the most adrenaline going that I've ever had while on the mound. It was awesome.
  16. When I was playing in the 90's, now having probably lost most my arm strength, mid 80's or high 80's and I would probably blow my arm out and get tommy johns without a long time warming up
  17. classic thread for fake internet boasting and exaggerating

if you can just come out and throw mid to high 80s with presumably having over a yr or 2 off without throwing then why arent you playing at least in the minor leagues? I call BS

I can prolly top out at 80 right now, but ill bet a mill Ill rock any of you that think you can get it by me
  19. I would be shocked if I hit 50 mph.
  20. everyone "use to" to throw 88-90 mph. lol

They invited the kid who threw 91 to an individual workout later in the week.

whats weird is you often hear about position players in mlb who actually throw in the 90s but don't end up pitching. or ones that eventually do convert. jays prospect anthony gose clocks in the mid 90s apparently but wants to play center field so he can 'be a star'. sergio santos used to play short stop before washing out and converting to a reliever with a 95+ fastball. jeff mathis (bluejays catcher) has had to pitch twice this year in blowout games, and was throwing 85mph. is it just that baseball players who have well conditioned arms, and are generally good athletes can often throw 80+?
  23. i remember throwing at one of those carnival style machines at some fun center, and the reading was so low i thought the machine was broken. i can't remember what it said, but it was probably lower than 70
  24. By the looks of it teams like the Rockies and Blue Jays should be scouting OTers when looking for pitching.
  25. Messing around in high school, I threw 87. Went to a fair when I was 25... hadn't thrown a baseball in probably 5 years, but I stretched and loosened up a bit before throwing at one of those fast pitch things, and I threw 79. Felt like I threw my arm out, because I wasn't used to it anymore.

Edit: Pretty sure I could throw 70 or so right now. I'll probably never throw any higher than that again though, considering I'm not getting any younger. Fuck aging.

  26. I'm 40 now, but still play regularly in an 18+ league. I probably still throw in the Low to Mid 80's, however I am an outfielder and not a pitcher. But having a strong arm has always been a plus for me and also allowed me to play professionally for 7 years in the 90's.
  27. I have no idea. My dad was a minor league baseball player and he always had a real strong arm though and growing up I always clearly threw harder than other kids. If I tried to throw a baseball right now I would probably throw my arm out
  28. Was a pitcher growing up until high school then a catcher/1st baseman and the most i ever hit on the gun was 84...played against jarrod parker in high school (pitcher for A's) and he hit 97 against us... fastest ive ever seen thrown in person/faced

  29. Think I topped out @88 in my senior year but avg around 83 and curve was like 72 or something. My arm is jello now and id be shocked if I could hit 75 with 5 tries

age : none of ur fkn business
