How to let parents/friends know you won't be graduating this semester?

    Alrite, as some may or may not know; I had every intention of graduating in EE from ULL this semester. Well turns out, I absolutely bombed a final, ie 15 / 125, and failed the class. This is one of the stupidest things I've done in my life and now I have no idea what to tell my fellow classmates much less my parents and everyone else who thinks I'm graduating.

    Any thoughts on how to handle this/been through this?

    maybe edit the title so you don't sound completely stupid...

    Just be straight up and tell them, much worse than the scrutiny you will be under if you try to hide it and lie, I mean seriously, I think they'll figure it out, plus it fucking happens to everyone.

    100% agree with donkey. There is nothing you can do about it at this point except move forward and graduate as soon as possible.

    Fixed the title....I have no plans on hiding it, and yes it's obv they'll figure it out. I was looking for options for going about actually telling them. Guess it's not that big of a deal but my parents are hardcore/will freak out, etc.

    Oh, and EE is electrical engineering.

    Man Ive seen this a million times. Just suck it up. You fucked up but you know what?? Its OK. You are going to finish...soon. You are too close not to, so you know you will still get to your goal. Just a minor setback. Be straight with everyone cause if you are not YOU WILL START TO SEPERATE FROM EVERYONE. Dont feel ashamed. I promise you. I seen it with friends of my own, classmates, ex roomates. It is kinda embaressing but no one but you will remember that in the end. Keep your shit straight over the summer and come back strong and focused in the fall and blam its over. GL

    They would probably freak out more if you weren't straight up with them

    Remember the episode of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air where Hilary dropped out of school for like an entire semester and Carlton and Will found out and they bribed her into doing all their laundry and all kinds of other crazy shit and it ended up driving Hilary insane because she kept bottling it up and finally blurted it out and it was a disaster that could have been avoided had she just (Wo)manned up in the first place.

    But yeah, they might freak out, but you will feel so much better getting it off your chest and they are your parents, they will love you no matter what, and they will support you.

    15/125 = 12%, maybe just tell them you got a 12% on your final, you'll all have a good laugh and then they'll choke you and you'll go to summer school

    I second the above comments - except donkey. Everybody makes mistakes, nobody died and you are not the first nor will you be the last that this ever happens to. your family will likely be unhappy but it passes and you don't have to advertise it to your classmates. Start looking at your options - can you do it over the summer etc. Once you decide on a plan it will ease your mind.

    You should tell them on Mothers Day and get your mom something really nice, then give it to her and go oh btw i failed my last class.

    lol at the fresh prince of bel air comparison.

    can't you just walk in the graduation and then take the class in the summer. I remember people being able to do that at my school...

    camz, most schools have a thing where if you fail 1 class that you need to graduate, you can take another "final" exam, which if you pass, they will still let you graduate...maybe your school has that too

    I hear yea cmval...it's only one more semester, I've been here for 5 years, so 1 more semester wont hurt, and it's only 3 credits..not like it's going to be a full course load. Thanks for the response.

    I went ask my professor that just now, and he literally said "gtfo with that idea", I wanted to laugh so hard but I remembered the reason I was in there. So he recommended summer school at LSU. This would allow me to be done by summer's end even though I won't get my diploma until December. He said I'll get some sort of document saying I've completed blah blah blah, so tha tI can apply for jobs, etc, once the summer is done which means basically I can get a job afte the summer instead of January!!

    But, the drive is 1 1/2 hours to LSU one way-gg gas mileage.

    i go to a real college, ohio university. anyways, many of my friends have "walked" while they still had a course or two to complete over the summer. It is quite common and not only here

    I went to Bradley University. I just talked to my buddy and he was allowed to walk in the graduation even though he was 3 credit hours short...he was just required to take the course in the summer at our school. When you walk they didn't give you a diploma anyways...you would get in the mail a month later...Maybe they have something like this at your school.
