  1. in 12 minutes? Every year when I watch these animals in the hot dog eating contest I wonder how many dog I could scarf down and even have been tempted to give it a shot and test myself.

I'm thinking I could get down 8 but that may be the max and I know I would feel like shit after. I can't ever recall eating more then 4 dogs in a sitting and that was when I was camping and ripped out of my mind. In a serious competition I'm thinking 7-8.

Anyone think they could hit double digits? Remember you only have 12 minutes and standard eating competition rules.
  2. I was going to say 8 too. I've definitely done 5 before, but same thing, feel disgusting after. Double digits in 12 minutes is pretty amazing in my opinion.
  3. I don't know. I've made 10 hot dogs for myself when I've been hungry, and could eat more. I didn't do it in 12 minutes tho.
    I can't imagine eating 1/minute being a problem so I'm going to say 12.
  4. I've done two extra large pizza pies in one sitting.. so think I csn pass the 10 mark

Good god...I'm hoping this was some sort of challange.

I'd be able to eat 15 dogs before I could house two extra large pizza.

  6. I can't believe I'm watching this. The intros are taking longer than the competition will be. I think a couple of guys copped a feel on Juliet Lee.
  7. 0 hot dogs cause I hate them
I could crush some pizza or tacos tho

I'm watching too , It blows my mind that only like 1 guy is fat and the girls are like 105-115 pounds. wtf
  8. no kobayashi this year? wtf mate?

lol they show him just as i post this. im assuming by the sounds of the commentator's ambiguous comment that he lost his passion and quit

  10. Scha's guess seems about right...I could probably do 12ish.
  11. Watching them eat is fucking disgusting
  12. Nope, Kobayashi didn't quit. He refused to sign a contract with Major League Eating (lmfao) which said that he wasn't allowed to compete in non-MLE competitions.
  13. Theyre nice but I couldnt eat a whole 1 by myself.
  14. 12 of them a hotdog a minute
  15. I'm gonna say 8 or so.
  16. ship it to Chestnut

lol at him needling Kobayashi in the post game interviews

  19. If I was trying real hard to eat alot I could maybe get 4 or 5 down.
  20. NEW YORK -- Competitive eater Joey Chestnut has held on to his title at the annual July Fourth hot dog eating contest at New York's Coney Island, but one of his biggest rivals tried to crash the celebration and has been taken into custody.
Chestnut chomped down on 54 hot dogs in 10 minutes on Sunday to win the annual Nathan's International Hot Dog Eating Contest for the fourth year in a row.
Watching from the crowd was six-time champion Takeru Kobayashi who has not signed a contract with Major League Eating to be free to compete in contests sanctioned by other groups.
But Kobayashi went on stage after the competition. Police officers grabbed him, and he tried to hold onto police barricades as they took him into custody.

  22. I thought it was planned and they were gonna let Kobayashi in at the last minute. That would have been cool. A lot cooler than what did happen. Either way Kobayashi pretty much made the MLE. Before him it was all fat dudes who would eat like 17 or 18. The record was like 21. Then he just comes out of nowhere and eats like 52. Nobody even knew who he was. MLE should cut the dude some slack and let him compete in other competitions. They owe it to him. He's made them so much money the last 10 years.

    maybe 6 or 7

  23. its 10 minutes now not 12. they droped it down a year or so ago. Back when I trained for this I could do 20-24 in training runs. Which was enough to get on the stage in almost any Q event. I am glad they finally added prize money. ITs 20k this year. It use to be just for the belt. Top eaters make 100k plus now. I yell at my wife every year around this time. I wish she would have let me compete in a few events I had signed up for back a few years ago. She was to embarassed to see me on tv. She told me if I went through with it she would Divorce me.
I spent a bit of time talking to chestnut about training back then. ITs alot of water work, and speed runs. Doing 6 dogs as fast as you can. The water training helps to expand your stomach and also help you train agianst the gag reflex.
  24. Baughman, one of my favorite posters, thanks for the insight.

I want to know what it physically feels like to down 25 dogs in 10 min. Do you throw up after the competition? Not eat for two days? Drop ungodly deuces? Or is it nothing out of ordinary and your body handles it fine.

  25. watch them all start dropping dead in the early 40's too
  26. lol at arresting Kobayashi, none of these people would be worth a dime if not for him single-handedly popularizing the event.

scariest part of the article.on ESPN imo is that the average American eats 60 hot dogs per year.
  27. lol this yahoo comment,

  28. I just saw the footage of him being arrested. I think he's entertaining and all but he was way out of line. The police were simply trying to keep him from jumping over the barricades to get on stage and he kept trying to force his way out of their pretty damn gentle half-hugs. After he got cuffed some shrieky banshee chick claiming to be his interpreter was saying that his "freedom" was being taken away because of a contract dispute. She should have said it was because Chestnut owns his soul at this event.

I hope this ends "Major League Eating". God help us all.

  30. I don't think eating 60 dogs a years is all that scary or unhealthy. I probably play golf once or twice a week 8 months out of the year. A majority of the time I grab a hotdog on the turn which would equal out to be 40 or so dogs a year not counting grilling/family outings which would put me over 60 dogs a year easily and I'm in fine shape.
