  1. Had a discussion with a friend, wanted to see what OT would think of this situation...

I've read that your body can get physically addicted the first time you do meth or crack.

What do you think would happen if you somehow got someone to take these drugs for the first time then somehow made them forget about it to the point that they had zero recollection that the 'cravings' or whatever they had later were for that specific chemical?

I don't really know what the sensation of being addicted to drugs is, so I have nothing to compare it to.

    Thoughts?...
  2. "I've read that your body can get physically addicted the first time you do meth or crack."

    thats pretty much bullshit,

they would have to have it a fair few times to get physically addicted to it, They could def have it once and fall inlove with it though.
  3. Forget has to do w/ the mind. Addiction has to do w/ the mind and a physical chemical dependency. So I think the question is flawed.
  4. Addiction is something you are born with it is an overdose of endorphans (sp) that can't trigger the stop in the brain that you have gone to far and end up chasing that "feeling" forever. I have tried almost every drug except H-ron and have never felt the urge to have it....3 of my friends died in 1 night in 1996 from what they thought was cocaine but turned out to be pure H-ron fucking Hondurans sold it as coke...any they where addicts and was unaware...they would each spend $1-200/day getting high.

  6. You cannot get addicted to meth or crack the first time you use it. That is a myth. You will like it, and might want it again, but in no way will you be addicted. It is a powerful reinforcing drug, but one time isn't gonna get you hooked. Same with heroin.

Technically, that depends on how we are defining "addicted".

As far as physical addiction, you are correct that nobody actually gets physically addicted to any drug on the first dose. Not even crystal meth or crack. It simply takes multiple dosings for the body to develop an actual physical dependecy to the drug, since the body needs to log a certain amount of time of having the drug in its system (a much longer amount of time than a single dose would provide), in order for it to become grouchy about the lack of having said drug in its system.

As far as psychological addiction, however, this isn't necessarily true. It is definitely possible for a person to be totally psychologically addicted to a drug after using it for the very first time. Psychological addiction simply means the person wants to do it again, badly. A person can have psychological addictions to pretty much anything. For example, if a person watches a movie for the very first time, and enjoys it very much, and wants to watch more movies more badly than anything else in life, and is all pissed off and angry until he can get his hands on another movie to watch, that person is psychologically addicted to movies. From the very first dose of it. Lolz. I mean, it sounds silly, but by definition that would be the case.

The point is, even though psychological addiction is the "bullshit" addiction, and not the "real thing", since physical addiction has actual medically recordable physical symptoms that occur when it happens, at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter whether the thing that is causing the person to do whatever they are addicted to, over and over again, all day every day, whether the reason impetus is physical, or psychological, either way, if its causing the person to keep doing it all day every day, the result is the same either way, so, it would still be an addiction, either way.

So, the answer to the OP should be:

    1. No, you can't get physically addicted to meth (or any street drug for that matter) from just doing it once.

    2. Yes, you can get psychologically addicted to meth (and basically anything else in the world, even movies or birdwatching or whatever the fuck) from just doing it once, theoretically.
  11. OP's post sound like the ramblings of a crack/meth head.
  12. is it perhaps that the come down from drugs such as meth is so harsh that you want to do it again right away just so you dont feel like shit? anyways, good question. i've always been pretty interested in addiction psychology

That's why most heroin addicts continue to use, the withdrawals are so bad they'd rather continue the lifestyle. It's like the worst flu you've ever had x10. It's not that they want to continue using or even enjoy it, the second you inject it the dopesickness/cravings vanish immediately. Although once you've quit, for me at least, it still has a strong psychological effect. I think about it daily whether I want to or not.
