Or it was just a condition called sleep paralysis either way it fucking sucks. Pretty much woke up but could not move. At first I was speaking to my wife but the presence that was there was not my wife and looked more like my son and that was some scary shit. Then had a feeling like I went back to sleep, only to wake up with the feeling something was there. So I tried to get up but could not move, so I tried to say something but I could not speak. I started to fight real hard ,but still could not move or speak and the voices in the room got closer and a voice in my head said to calm down and have patience, which made me fight harder. This is a terrifying experience where you feel like you’re being restrained. You also hear and see weird shit like voices and movement which just freaks you out.

Then I wake up and it’s all over and nothing there. The first thing you think you have been abducted by aliens or demons are fucking with you. Of course you can Google it and find out that what you have experience was a condition called sleep paralysis. It still freaks you the fuck out.
I have had this condition throughout my life on and off. It did not help when I was younger that my grandmother would say it was the devil and I needed to pray. I don’t believe that of course but when you are going through an episode of sleep paralysis it crosses your mind even for a brief second as you try to explain what is happening.
I watched the video on this site and people have some freaky ass experiences, I mean shit right out of a horror movie.

I've experienced sleep paralysis quite a few times. No matter how often it happens I am in complete terror each time it does. You try to scream and it comes out as barely a whisper. It is quite an unsettling experience and I always have trouble getting to sleep afterwards.

yeah this used to happen to me regularly, i wouldnt describe it as freaking me out more like just really annoying. and although it takes a ridiculous physical effort i can snap myself out of sleep paralysis and the instant i move at all its over.

Yeah I could not go back to sleep afterwards -
I've had sleep paralysis once or twice. When I "woke", I felt a presence in the room by my bed but I couldn't see anything and I was too scared to look closely because I couldn't move. I remember not being able to yell or scream either. Pretty terrifying experience all round. I never heard voices though, that must have been scary as fuck. I think the scientific explanation seems fairly reasonable to me, don't think its Aliens.
-
The title had potential
-
HATE, I REPEAT HATE when this happens... it has happened to me twice. Both times I "woke up" felt a presence above me, scared shitless, but couldn't move a fucking muscle. That is the worst feeling ever. Granted i deserved it as both times i was coming off of weeks of abusing Xanax... but still.
the first time it happened i was convinvced it was Aliens -
aren't these called "night terrors?"
-
Night terrors usually cause you to bolt straight up out of bed, so no.
-
i used to work awake overnights taking care of autistic teenagers. one night i had been up for about 3 days stragiht, and i was laying on the couch 'resting my eyes'. i opened my eyes to the 15 year old (who is somewhat dangerous) staring right in my face. couldn't move, couldnt talk, just hoped i wouldn't be attacked. scariest shit ever.
he eventually went back into his room, and i'm not sure what happened from that point, but nothing serious took place. -
He just gently stroked your nutsack and went back into his room
-
That sounds terrifying :( I have this recurrent nightmare that a shadowy figure is standing over me menacingly. I typically wake myself (and anyone else in the house) up screaming my head off. My heart pounds for several minutes and it's really just awful. Sounds similar, but in my case, I'm able to move as far as I know.
-
Happened to me nonstop severl times a week from age 15-25. Always within 10minutes of falling asleep and then several times the same night to where I didn't want to fall asleep due to the HORROR.
It was the WORST!
My typical experience with paralysis was me trying to punch or hit something or somehow get away, eventually I would 'fly' around the room with no doubt that everything was 100% reality. After dozens of repeat experiences and realizing the second I awoke that it was all 'fake' I was able to control what happened in the 'dreams' and force myself to wake up.
But it took many years and a hundred terrifying nights before I could realize during the experience what was happening. It is soooooo hard to wake myself from them but I can finally do it but still scary as shit. I usually beg and beg my body to alert my wife next to me to wake me up but I am frozen.
It is terrifying Especially when I am flying or fighting from room to room in my house with some entity always present. It's fucked. ALthough when the entity is a female angel I try to get off with her which is cool but freaky.
I only have these once every few years now. I'm 44. But due to this thread I am sure I will have one tonight. If that happens I will fly through my psychodelic worm hole and punch OP in the baby maker. -
Took haldol as a teenager and this was a daily occurance.
-
I almost made this exact thread last month. I have had this occur maybe 5 times, all post chemo and chalked it up to the whole cancer experience. It is so intense words can't describe it. I am aware that I am stuck and there is nothing I can do. I try to wake up but usually the experience will "jump" like in that stupid movie Inception. I will get out of one torture and enter another. Really seems like it is an abduction.
Good luck OP. -
I had this happen one time during my freshman year in college. I was taking a nap in my dorm after a class and woke up but couldnt move or open my eyes. It was like my brain was functioning and I knew I was awake but couldn't move a muscle. Then I started to see flashing lights through my eyelids. Seriously terrifying.
Most people I've talked to about this have had a similar experience once or twice in their life, and it looks like so have most of the people ITT. When I researched on google I found that sleeping on your back was one of the things that they connected to a causes, and obv I was sleeping on my back that day in college. Ever since then I've slept on my side or stomach. -
I had this happen to me only once. Woke up feeling like somebody was trying to strangle me. Felt another person there but I couldnt move at all or make out a face.
It went on for what seemed like hours and was really annoying but wasnt that scary for me because I had read about this before.
Ill deff never forget it tho and Im not exactly looking forward to the next experience. -
I've had this happen quite a few times, and most times it happens after I've taken a nap on the couch. I've never heard voices or anything, but I always feel like there is some "presence" lingering around. I can't talk or move which is scary, but the worst part is breathing. If my face happens to be pillow first, it feels like I can't breathe; so I'm struggling for air while "paralyzed" and I can't call for help.
IT SUCKS. -
I hav e this probably once a month or so. Once I learned what it is I found it pretty easy to cope. All you gotta do is relax yourself and start trying to wiggle your toes and your tongue. That usually snaps me out pretty quickly. Also, its apparently easy to start lucid dreaming if you just relax and accept it. Unfortunately I've never been able to achieve this.
-
PM Matt Damon. Its obv the adjustment bureau you dolts.
-
This used to happen to me a lot back in college.
After the first few times I read up on it and the best advice that I got was "try to relax, breathe deep and go back to sleep"
Once I relaxed I'd fall right back to sleep -
I wonder if the voice I heard in my head that said to calm down and have patience, was my own voice. If so I need to practice listening to it, instead of freaking out.
-
how is this so common and I've never heard of it? Sounds crazy hope i never have it
-
Definitely get this too, although usually when I'm waking up from a nap rather a nights sleep. Used to freak the crap out of me but I've learned to stay calm and try as hard as possible to move one finger or toe and once that happens I usually snap out of it. Still sucks a ton.
-
I get sleep paralysis often. I don't ever feel like I was abducted by aliens, but I've felt like I was having a seizure when trying to move my body. Apparently there are many similarities to seizures and sleep paralysis from what I've read. It tends to happen to me when I'm slightly dehydrated, and I rarely take naps but almost every single time I've taken a nap in the past 5 years it's happened.
Fucking sucks.
