I have not read, or even attempted to read the entire 1000 page bill that deals with Health Care......HOWEVER, I have been listening to the news with great interest.
The thing that troubles me most, aside fromn the $1 trillion price tag and the fact that the Mayo Clinic, one of the most repsected names in medicine, says it is a HORRIBLE bill, is the fact that in this bill Obama is calling for an additional 5.4% tax on people who make over $1 million (not me) and anyone who makes over $250K will be subject to a tax hike based on a sliding scale.
How much more money do successful people have to keep paying to support everyone else in this country?
If my facts are wrong, I apologize, as I am only repeating what I watched on CNN last night (a nice liberal station) and I welcome any corrections.
Obama's approval rating on this plan has dropped 15% since April and is under 49%. Even members of his own party are speaking out against his plan.
I really hope this doesn't pass -

I think that both parties are so fk'd right now and the ONLY real topic that really gets me on a soapbox is income taxes. If the country needs people to pay more taxes, then everyone should pay the same %, not the same dollar amount, but the same %.
If I choose to spend all my money buying houses, cars, toys, etc, then charge my ASS a higher sales tax or increase property taxes. These are things, luxuries, whatever, that a person can control. If you want to buy things, that is fine, but you'll be taxed on them. But to charge people who make money and work hard a higher tax rate than people who dont is such BS! -

How can any half-way educated person support this reform? And thats a serious question.
Why should someone who has worked their ass off their entire life, to get where they are financially, be forced to pay higher taxes to cover medical expenses for people who sit at home on their own ass all day? This just makes zero sense to me and I would love to hear opinions on this from someone who supports this reform (overhaul).
Sure there are some people, who due to extenuating circumstances, are unable to afford insurance/medical bills/checkups etc. But the majority are lazy, worthless, government-leeching individuals who walk around with their hand out all day. -

utter, link to what Mayo has to say about the proposal? I would like to read it, as they are an institution that is certainly getting it right, and has called for universal health care in the past.

This won't affect me one iota, because I don't make anywhere near 250K and definitely won't if I continue on my current career path, but I still think it's unfair and very shortsighted. Why do people believe "rich" people owe the rest of us anything?? I don't get it. -
