On a side note, I'm glad the hospital takes testing their health care workers for TB seriously.

Edited By: michlad Sep 9th, 2010 at 01:58 PMWell, if anything, it looks as if both the HR and and Residency P&P's weren't followed. Quite a few general outlined steps were skipped. Right there, seems grounds for a complaint, simply for that fact alone.I had assumed when you(OP) had originally posted this, that there had to be some kind of policy in suspending/firing someone still completing their residency. I couldn't imagine that one HR lady wielded such power. Or, at the very least you weren't given some kind or disciplinary action in writing.Originally Posted by MUPokerPlayer

my tuberculosis test obv was negative, i went to work the next day and never heard another word from anybody. should i try to get that HR woman in trouble over the way she handled it?
Below is what looks to be a guide used in following outlined procedures for suspending/firing current residents at Univ Columbia Med Ctr/Hosp. I'd hazard a guess that, if this particular policy isn't followed at your specific hospital, that there certainly has to be similar policies in place at one where you currently are completing you residency.

DISCIPLINARY ACTION POLICY
FOR RESIDENTS/FELLOWS
Resident physicians are subject to disciplinary actions including oral reprimands, written reprimands, suspensions and discharge for misconduct or for performance which does not meet acceptable standards.
Suspension Without Pay or Termination
Before a resident physician may be suspended without pay or terminated prior to the specified ending date of his or her appointment, the resident physician should be provided in writing with findings which the University believes support the proposed suspension without pay, or the termination.
That written notice will be provided by the residency program director and will include details concerning the findings of misconduct or the performance deficiencies. In addition, the written notice will inform the resident physician that if he or she disagrees with such findings and desires to contest the proposed disciplinary suspension or termination, he or she must inform the residency program director in writing within ten (10) days of receipt of the written notice.
After receiving notice that the resident physician disagrees with such allegations and desires to contest the proposed disciplinary suspension or termination, the residency program director will schedule a meeting with the resident physician so that he or she will have an opportunity to present information in support of his or her position regarding the findings.
After discussing the issues with the resident, the residency program director shall decide whether (1) to impose the disciplinary suspension without pay or the termination which had been contemplated, (2) to impose some lesser degree of discipline or (3) that the resident physician should receive no discipline. That decision shall be communicated to the resident physician in writing as soon as possible.
If the resident physician is dissatisfied with the decision of the residency program director, he or she may, within ten (10) days of receipt of such written decision, file a grievance in accordance procedures outlined in the Grievance Policy.

IMO, I'd maybe wait until said residency is over; this very thread was already linked to Univ Hosp MO, Columbia search as of last week. (IIRC, I had voiced concern over just that when this was orig posted....meh, everyone said : "Quit bein' so paranoid".Originally Posted by MUPokerPlayer
i don't need her for anything. the only consideration is if something went on my permanent record that i got suspended or something. every time you apply for a medical license in another state or apply for a new job as a physician, you are asked if you have ever been suspended. i never was told i got suspended or anything, so i'm not sure what to think.

Damn, good read! Glad it all worked out MUPP. For you and the family. What a bunch of POS not notifying you. You had been there for almost 5 years and were a good worker / person and no one decided to warn you? F that! Once I got done with my residency, I would leave that POS hospital!

Sucks it was such a hassle to get it resolved, but it least you did. And gl with getting your record clean for future employment, etc.
