just watched the speech on ESPN, and it gave me chills...i'm too young to appreciate his career as a coach, but I lost my grandfather to cancer in 2003. He was my mentor, the man who I attribute to who I am today. He was 76 and was never able to see the Red Sox win the world series, which they obviously accomplished in 2004. Jim Valvano, for those who dont know, was a basketball coach at North Carolina State for many years who was diagnosed with cancer in the early 1990's. He made a famous speech at the ESPY awards in 1993 and died of cancer 2 months after the speech. He established The V Foundation to benefit cancer research, and it has benefited many people, including his daughter, who is a survivor of breast cancer. I encourage anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer to search the V foundation and donate whatever you can...I have, my family has, it's crucial to cancer research. below is the video of his famous speech. thanks for your time.

Brings a tear to my eye all the time. Just watched the segement on him on ESPN a few minutes ago.
In a way he helped save his daughter's life. -
As I was writing my Rant Post I was also watching this video. It definetly puts things into perspective. I am very thankful my family is healthy. I just want to be a paid healthy family.
Great Speech Jimmy V -
I watch this speech every year. And every year it amazes me... My mom has Cancer and has battled lymphoma and is a survivor so it hits close to home...
Would watch again -
I always lose it when he says "it may not save MY life...."
good man, great speech, don't EVER give up.
