    I'm pretty sure that if some people in Afghanistan were brought up on an archaic distortion of Christianity, then they would kill people over cartoons of Jesus.

    This all has a lot less to do with Islam then people think it does.

    it's not about religion - it never has been about religion

    it's about power hungry extremists that use religion as a tool to accomplish their personal goals

    we have our share of extremists but we also have enough moderates to keep them in check - this is not so much the case in third world countries.

    in a democratic society, we have the freedom to choose and openly express our opinions (in theory) and we have a seperation between church and state (in theory). For every Jerry Fallwell, there will always be a Larry Flint to remind them of what assholes they are. For every Pat Robertson or Oral Roberts, there will always be a Bill Maher or George Carlin to ridicule their hypocracy.

    If you live in Iran, the freedom to oppose or berate the Ayatollah for his beliefs is not quite so simple.

    Okay... I think ive made my point. Ill leave this thread now.

    We can let the Christian folks stand on their soap box now and act like never killed someone over religious beliefs. I guess cause they did it so long ago, that means it didnt happen. I wonder if they ever realize that some of the extreme muslims in the Middle East are still living pretty much the same way people did back when the Christians and Jews were fucking people up.

    no, religion does have a lot to do with this. external motivation makes it easier to kill others. people are not generally killers of other people.

    religion and patriotism can get people to do things they otherwise would never consider doing.

    You kidding, dude? I hope you are. That article was extraordinarily biased, written by a Mohamed, no less.

    Most basically, you make the assertion that I quoted above.

    Then, you post a link to an article, purportedly to back up your statement. Forget the ridiculous bias of the author that is hidden in plain sight. "Historical facts tell us that Jews and Christians have, tragically, killed many more Muslims than the other way around. Now this assertion may seem to go against the current tide of public opinion, but a little basic research will prove the point."

    The author then starts listing facts beginning from 1956, onwards. The Zionsim stat seems completely made up, so it doesn't count.

    For shit's sake, like the worst article link to backup a point in OT history. Islam is a more violent religion than any other major world religion. Period. And its not even close. Light years distance.
